DIY - Valentine One V1 heads-up display (HUD)
I know most people want their V1 in stealth mode, trying to hide the concealed display avoid letting the driver behind you see you got a V1, or don't let cops spot your radar detector. I am just tired of heads down and checked the concealed display. But true (cross finger), if I get pull over then this is gonna be in the For Sale section lol.
So I come out a HUD like this..... BTW, I got a 2011 E90 and I don't have center speaker so I use the space for the HUD. 1. the center speaker assembly 2. took apart the concealed display and studied wiring 3. the HUD 4. tinted 5. testing it 6 - 10. variety display 11. top view tomorrow gonna try daytime driving with it. cover is unfinished. I notice you have a ghost image. Caused by the two layers of laminated glass.
I think cars with HUD's use a special type of glass to prevent this ghosting of the display. I had a car once with a HUD and the windshield was replaced. Ghosting started so I made them install new glass for the HUD. It went away. Nice mod though.

What if you just put a piece of matte black or frosted vinyl where the HUD projects to on the windshield?

instead of putting something like reflector or vinyl on windshield (illegal in California), I made a reflector board mounted on the speaker cover, so at least I can see at daytime

Love the idea but who wants a reflector board in the middle of your dash, there has to be a way to make it visible during the day. How do the factory HUDs work during the day, special glass that gunner mentioned or a special backlight? If we can somehow figure this out i guarantee people would pay good money for this, i know i would.

I love the ingenuity! I'm trying to replicate this and have a couple questions for the OP.
What did you use for the lights and how did you flip the 7 segment display? Did you just switch the wires? |
