Well I had the interview this morning. Got a call back about 40 mins after offering the job to me. The interviewer said I fitted the bill for exactly what they were looking for, but I worked on similar technologies.

The commute was 35 mins, although it is still school holidays up here.

I've been offered a greater basic salary, plus overtime allowance and callout. The pension scheme is far better and the benefits package is miles ahead of my current.

The role is not a specialised role like I have at the moment, but will be a mixture of all the technologies used for the companies analytic reporting. This will expose me to a lot of new products I have not worked with, and thinking it will add another string to the bow. It seems like a laid back working environment with plenty of opportunities, as well as annual wage rises and bonus potential.

Still have some uncertainty (or possibly fear/anxiety) but far less that I had before the interview.

That sounds encouraging. What business area are the new company in?

Mega - basically, No. I did used to work with Architects previously, but not of the IT variety and I work in the Healthcare/Medical sectors now.
I do know someone who might be able to help you though....off topic, so I'll PM

again, good points, but remember young Mplan is only 22, and he is permanent employed as opposed to be a contractor, as you seem to be. not saying your approach is wrong.
working in the contract guise, you can be more aggressive and you have to take risks in obtaining employement that ordinarily you would not in a permanent job.

Id like to be 22 again as well, would change alot of things about work and the decisions I made. One of those decisions would have been to remain with my first employer for a few years longer.

Mplan - nice work.
I know you knew them through an ex colleague, but you still have to impress when your infront of someone.

You defo seeming more positive straight away, so now it will just be your conscience playing with you!
If it helps, make a list of positives and negatives for each job. Sounds stupid and petty, but Ive done this to help even the most experience individuals make up their minds.

I think that's exactly what's going on! I always doubt myself, but never show others, but i know I'd probably be quite good at this job. With the company I work for just now (tax payer owned bank), progression is limited due to recruitment freeze, even internally. I just need to weigh up the pro's and con's, and make an informed decision.

Thanks Dave! I'll keep everyone posted once the paperwork etc is through and I've had some time to mull it over. Now I just need to play my cards right with my current boss and not do anything silly!

Well done Fella

My only contribution to this thread would be the old adage:

'You work to live, not live to work'.

Quick update for those interested!

As I said before, I had the interview and left feeling confident about the move. Well, I slept on it and decided I wasn't going to take it due to a few niggling thoughts. Told them thanks but no thanks, and got on with it.

I received another call today from them , upping there offer by 7% on the original figures plus benefits. They told me they would really like me to join and would work on any concerns I had. Discussed everything over with them and was happy with the support they gave. Followed by another few hours of questioning the move, I decided to take it.

They have offered substantially more money, and the commute is not as bad as I thought according to a few people I know who make similar trips. Plus, there seems to be far greater scope of progression than my current role.

So after some great thought and consideration, looks like I'm in for a big change! As Arnie once said "You should never be afraid to fail"

Thanks Dobbo. What are your circumstances? I know exactly how you feel, and there's nothing to do but think long and hard about it. You may have more to lose than I as I dont know your current situation, but for me I had no commitments.

My current commute is pretty much city driving, 15 miles each way and I have to pay for parking (usually £80pm). The new commute is 25 miles and we have allocated parking spaces. This will be a mixture of country roads then onto the city bypass. Difference in time will hopefully be no longer than 20 mins extra according to people I know who make the same commute.
