My CA told me he couldn't budge off MSRP too, I told him I knew I could get better, I said "I have been seeing people getting $1000-$1500 over invoice", he said "well if you can get that then I encourage you to take those offers", I said "I intend to" and left. He called me on my cell 10 mins later and said he could do $1500 over invoice. I told him I would have to think about it. I called him back a few days later and was very straight with him, I told my him that all I wanted was a fair deal, that I know some people play the "I want an AMAZING deal" game but that I was just looking for a fair deal, I said I was looking at $1200 over invoice (which to me is a fair deal), and that I knew he could make some money off of that and I still get a fair deal, he agreed. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten around $1000 over invoice had I sat down for hours on end, but I just don't think its worth it.
That's my experience, hope it helps. |

They gave me a discount off sticker but I didn't calculate it. I just said 1000 over invoice and they gave me 1400 over, including shipping. That's what was going to be most likely the upper limit of my spending. Shipping from Oregon ended up being 650 so they knocked down another 50 dollars. So if they didn't ship the car, it would have been 700 dollars over invoice.
I think the guys at my dealership (Cunningham BMW) knew I was pretty serious about getting the car, and we have only bought BMW's from them (albeit inconsistently) for the past 15 years. My CA just said he could have made probably 2K on my car, but they stuck w/ the negotiated deal. I wanted a discount, but I'm not the type of guy to whore out a deal. That said, it was the beginning of August when they were continuing 0.9 on 08's... maybe they just wanted numbers.

With the economy, markets, and banks the way they are right now....those dealers arent very wise. Just tell them that if they want to sell a car you want a discount, otherwise...the can sit on their thumbs (which they're already doing).

Tell them that their offer is ABSURD. Tell them if they want to sell a car to call you once they have come down DRAMATICALLY. Period. Shoot for between $1000-$1400 over invoice, I got $1200 and I have seen others (who sat in the dealership for hours on end) who got $1000 over invoice. |
