Idea! Power folding mirror
Someone should come up with a DIY that folds your mirrors when you put the car in park, or turn it off...
Probably better for when it turns off... Just a thought!

here's the DIY:
1) engage gear to the P position for steptronic cars; neutral for manual-transmission cars 2) open the door from inside 3) walk out of the car 4) using one hand, fold the driver side mirror 5) repeat step 4 on the passenger side

I agree with the OP. Auto-folding mirrors would have been nice / cool.

all kidding aside, some members have been trying to do a retrofit, it's not that easy of a retrofit.

and then there would be several people who would complain "I don't always want my mirrors to fold in", or "my fingers got pinched in the folding mirror, can I sue BMW?"
I manage to find the strength to push the button, and that seems to do the trick.

Wasn't this available on the early 06 e9x with CA? I think after that they decided for us that we didn't need this, bummer would be a cool feature.

Maybe I'm demonstrating my ignorance...but what's so tough about pushing the button that folds/unfolds the mirrors? And mine automatically open when I put it in drive and hit a certain speed or distance (haven't figured out which it is yet)

such as auto door locks when you drive off, i assume you use that feature? it's a convenience thing i guess? or the triple signal thing, where you knock the signal stick and it turns on for 3-5 (??) blinks and shuts off. just enough to change lanes with. am i too lazy to do it manually? of course not, just a nice feature... they make them open automatically, obviously for safety reasons, would you have been too lazy to open them yourself? not trying to start a fight...but i think you get my point
