Any 325/330 drivers WITHOUT the Metallic ticking noice?

As the car gets older, and the warranty comes to an end, are there any drivers out there that do NOT have had the metallic ticking noise from the engine? I had it a couple times during the winter period last year, the dealer did the bleed procedure and so far it did not return. I read up on the Metallic ticking noise sticky as soon as there is a new posting, and read most of the previous 37 pages. I am worried about the future when the car is out of warranty and the ticking returns. I own the car and am building a LTR with my vehicle, so it needs to last w/o ridiculous $8k repairs that may be a designer error/material tolerance and I cannot do anything about. I know a lot of people face this issue by reading the sticky; I do not know how big is the other group who has no issues??? Also, for those who had the cylinder head replaced, did it fix the problem?

I did have the ticking noise less than a year after I first got it. For me, the ticking noise was very loud, and would not go away when warmed up. They opened a PUMA case and replaced the lifters and camshaft (sent from Germany) and a few other pieces related. No cylinder head replacement. The good news is that from then on, it's never had a relapse and has always stayed quiet.

When I asked my SA how much it would've cost to do this if there was no warranty, she said it would've been around $5000. I've always wondered whether later on after my warranty expires (and possibly an extended warranty - still considering it) if BMW would consider "good faith" coverage if it happened again. Being that it seems to be a common problem and they already did the work previously.

Did your SA mention any potential damage that might have occurred had you not had them fix it? I'm taking my car in this weekend and wonder if they will do all that the first time I take it in. Ticking is on and off.

My 325 had the ticking noise problem when it was under 20K and I had to get the bleeding done 3-4 times but the SA never approved any other repairs. The car now has 30K and the ticking noise has not returned in a year but I doubt I will keep my car past warranty.

It does seem like the ticking occurs if you use your car for frequent short trips and as long as you take it out on a freeway now and then the problem stays away.

I'm not sure if this question was meant for me. If it was, I never actually asked what damage may have occurred if I did nothing. All I knew was that the noise was loud enough that it was obvious there was a problem that needed to be tended to.

A friend of mine has a 2006 325i and we have discussed the issue and his car seems to be fine considering he drives mostly very short distances everyday. He bought the car used with about 20,000 miles on it. So we don't know if any work was done previously.

This was the follow up:
I received a call from: BMW NA Customer Service
I talked talked to Liz.

She listened patiently to my concern. Since my ticking has not returned after the dealer did the bleed procedure a year ago, BMW is considering this problem as resolved for my vehicle. She also told me that maintaining the vehilce at the BMW Service Center according the prescribed maintenance intervals should reveal any annomalities at an early stage. I'm still crossing my fingers that the ticking will stay away... It just scares me to see 38 pages from people with metallic ticking issues.

My wife's car, a 2006 325, had it briefly at around 10,000 miles. It went away on its own and has not returned. The car now has 50,500 miles.

Oil analysis has not shown any unusual wear. So fingers crossed, off I go into the land of no warranty.

The lifter tick wont cause any damage to your motor. Dont sweat it.

SITUATION
An occasional ticking or rattling noise from the HVA elements may occur during cold engine starts or frequent short distance driving.

CAUSE
In these situations, the HVA elements may not yet have been supplied with sufficient amounts of air-free oil. This condition will not cause any damage to the engine, and usually remedies itself with a longer driving distance or operating times at full operating temperature.

I had the repair done (cylinder head, etc, etc) on my 330 and the ticking stopped.

My 2006 325i now 51000miles. Short trips every day bout 3.1miles everyday to and back from work. No such tickiing sound so far. Hope it stays that way.

They changed exhaust valves on mine. Pleased that there is no more ticking. Even more pleased that it took no oil in the last 2000km, since they did it. In the last 15000km, it took on quart per 5000km. Wonderful "coincidence", isn't it?

Mine has 72,000 miles, no ticking and uses no oil.

It gets really cold around here during the winter and still no ticking/oil use. Most of my cars have uses a little oil during the winter months- you can smell it on start up, but this car has been nothing short of excellent.
