No totally disagree [with OP comment]. Bush had nothing to do with it. The Korean war, which has never finished (just a cease-fire) began in the 1950s. To blame Bush or even the US generally, is nonsense.

It's funny because I remember when junior dough boy took over and we all thought that he might not be as much of a prick as his dad. Turns out he's a chip of the old prick and then some.

True. I was going to say that 'they' reckon he's trying to show the generals he's a strong man despite his age blah blah blah. But it's all guesswork. No one knows what the fuck is going on in North Korea. He could have been dead six months and no one would know.

I think we should leave them to their own devices and stop any\all communications full stop. Yes they might be a strange little country with their own ways but whose to say the American way is "the right way" too. Were being brainwashed into believing that any system other than the American way is evil.

Leave then to run their country how they want, stop antagonising them and let them get on with it. Team America might have been a comedy but it's satire is spot on IMO. The world police attitude of the US often causes many more problems then it solves. Just sayin.

Yeah, you never know if NK are left in peace people the world over may decide that their way is pretty nifty after all and start to clamour for some sort of weird Stalinist hereditary dictatorship. Given the choice between living in the US or North Korea I know I'd choose North Korea every day of the week.

Leaving NK alone, that is what i mean't when i mentioned Bush.

He opened communication with them after previous administrations ignored them.

Bush basically didnt get what he wanted and threw his toys out the pram and they retaliated by commencing with their nuclear developments. I just assumed Bush calling NK evil was the catalyst for the past decade of increased tension.

I'm not a war historian and i wont be spending any time trying to figure out who or what is to blame but it seems to me the U.S. is stoking the fire by reacting to NK's taunts which only starting happening recently after Bush went against Clinton's policy which was to ignore them.

Anyway, whatever the reason all i keep seeing on the news sites is NK flexing their muscles and U.S. responding by moving troops and defences in preparation for an attack.

In think the fat 29 year old with a bad haircut and terrible taste in clothes, needs to be taught a lesson in international manners and relations. Sabre rattling against the US and SK only worsens the plight of the NK people...... And alienates North Korea even more

I see the UN haven't changed....." We will get vey angry and write you a letter" .........

All this stuff about it somehow being Bush's fault (moron that he was) is nonsense; he couldn't find North Korea on a map. Likewise blaming the US in general.

I've spent some time in South Korea, I've seen the huge US airbases just north of Seoul and I know that the South Korean people are grateful for their presence to deter constant aggression from the North. In the DMZ, it's the DPRK that have dropped all the concrete blocks.

South Korea is a Western ally and like the UK has US airbases on its soil. It's not surprising that the US are preparing a defence strategy of both their bases and SK as a whole; what are they supposed to do?

The entire rhetoric was started by Kim Jong-un and had nothing to do with any US aggression but as it's so fashionable to blame everything on US foreign policy the ignorant jump on the bandwagon.

The US and SK are quite happy to ignore DPRK if they were not threatening war.

Yes, I'm no fan of US Foreign Policy in general but it's entirely beside the point in this situation. The US have been in South Korea since 1950 and they are welcomed there.

It seems clear to me that it's expedient for the west to have a North Korea in the world. Just consider for a moment all the scary headline news stories over the past couple of days regarding NK. Now today, what should be headlining the BBC news page? An article by our PM in the Telegraph saying how we must keep our nuclear deterrent. Umm, I could be wrong, but I suspect that article was penned sometime before the NK stories of the last couple of days. If people perceived the world to be peaceful, there would be less support for keeping our nuclear deterrent.

In the past, it's been convenient to have Sadam in Iraq, and Gadafi in Libya. Now that they're gone, NK is the enemy of choice for the west, after all we must have enemies, otherwise large chunks of our defence industry would be pointless.
