Rear Door Actuators

Kinda had a unique situation. Both rear door actuators went out around the same time. No access inside and out. Had to roll down the window to take my daughter out. Checked all the fuses and everything seemed to be fine.

I had BMW look at it and they quoted me $1200 or more because of the locked doors. They told me that a trained BMW tech would only be able to open both doors because it was a internal mechanical failure with the actuators.

Challenge Accepted!!
Crawled in the back in 106 deg socal weather to attempt to break out of my car.

I'm using this picture below from TyPe-ZeRo. He had a similar issue.
I tried pressing down on both links (on the actuator) for the inside and outside door handle and no luck. Couple people on here tried that and ended up being worn out cables. Now I'm thinking BMW was right.
At this point I almost gave up. I didn't know what the fuck to do.
I noticed that there are 2 gears (cams) behind lock(green arrow). I started to rotate the 1st black gear with a flat-head screw drive. (green arrow), while pushing down on the linkage hook (yellow arrow). The door flew open.

Took me 2-3 hours to figure this out.
I have been reading a bunch of threads and I really couldn't find a problem like mine. So I hope this might help someone in the future.

did the same thing to the other side and got the other door to open.

Big shout out to Jason at tisher for getting me my actuators pretty quick.
did some trout fishing while I waited for my package.

Once I got my parts, took me 10 minutes to swap them out and another 5 to put the panels & seat back together. I saw other people were removing windows, window regulators and outside door handles. Way to much effort. With the window up, I had more than enough clearance.

If anyone wants a better pic of how I did it, let me know. I'll post it later.
I'm guessing I saved myself over a grand doing this myself.
So, fuck the dealership. I want to go over there and do doughnuts in the parking lot with my rear doors open. hahaha
