Upgraded to CIC - sell on CCC or is it needed?
Chaps,
I have some interest budding away for my CCC since I upgraded to CIC. Question is do I need to retain the CCC for anything like Dealership work or anything? I don't have warranty if that forms part of this topic..... Please chime in. Ta. |

I want to know if CCC is required for dealer software upgrades and if so, what kind of upgrades?
Will they need my CCC to reset OBC lights after things like servicing? Sorry silly question. |

I read on here that if you had CCC and retrofitted CIC, then any warranty goes out of the window.
I also had this confirmed when I called BMW to check. Strangely, I was under the impression software updates would be affected - although I can't quite get my head round how, unless an update is for cars that should have CCC (due to age) and has CIC retrofitted, and if codings get overwritten or set to default, or something. That's just me hypothesising though, so don't take that as any kind of gospel! |

I too need an answer to this.
Say a key is stolen or lost and for absolute peace of mind i want new key and the security modules required. Would not having the ccc affect this? Basically after cic upgrade what do u need the ccc for...regardless of how remote the reason...i just want the facts so i can then make an informed decision |

I called BMW, asked about retrofitting it or having it professionally retrofitted (ie: I'd get makkan to do it!) and even asked about doing it by buying activation codes from BMW. I got told, no it would invalidate my BMW warranty because it's an integral part of the car electronics system, check control, etc. Generally speaking, yes, if you have modified brakes, suspension, etc, then if you mention this when taking out the warranty, they will (at their discretion) allow it on the basis that if it fails, or can be proven to have caused another covered component failure, then your warranty is worthless. As Makkan says, if you don't have a BMW warranty, don't worry about it - I certainly wouldn't. I'm sure Makkan can elaborate, as I seem to recall it was info on one of his threads I picked this warranty thing up on before. |

Sam, didn't you tell me BMW dealer won't be able to code or recode modules since the car will be telling the computer there is a missing module, hence the need to keep the old one and swap them around at warranty time?

And that proves that I inform my potential customers of any forthcoming issues... However So as Russ said it is not applicable in Sam's case as he does not have warranty. Now bmw stance is 1- They do not invalidate whole warranty. You are covered for XYZ except CIC or problem created due to CIC (which never happened so far in my record). 2- But if car requires coding for injectors and any other module they will not proceed till missing module is in the car. Best example is coding the injectors and updating DME on 335i.

OP. i think best thing to do is just get any software stuff upgrades from the coders on this forum and not bmw. dont even use bmw at all just use specialists etc when you need mechanical work done but like coding injectors etc get coders to do and sell your ccc

What I'm after knowing is if that's physically possible if my CCC is missing, shall we say? Can coders get around this issue?

I have just taken out a BMW Warranty over a Warranty Direct cover only last month. I posed thos exact same question to both companies:
"I have had a Retro fitted CIC system with Combox which has replaced my CCC system. Will this effect ANY warranty i take out with you"? WD Answer: No, but we will not cover any issue with your new CIC system as it was not on car from New. Nothing else would be effected, unless it could be proven that this retro fit in anyway caused the damage/repair/issue you are claiming for" BMW Direct Answer: "No, but we will not cover you for any part of your retro fitted CIC System. It will have no effect on the rest of the cover". Have both answers in an email form, should i have any issues further down the line. Went with BMW Direct, as they where cheaper and more comprehensive than WD. Hope this info helps anybody else concerned about having the CIC fitted with either WD or BMW warranty. I would also say you MUST tell them that you have had this fitted. OP does not have warranty so not much concern for him on my posting.

Typical how different people give different answers at BMW!
I guess it's luck of the draw who you speak to then. Whatever you do though, ask the question via email and get a written response via email. I had a written response telling me different to what Waspo got told though, which is a bit of an arse! |

Then you're stuffed Very few warranty providers cover vehicles with >100k miles on the clock and if you can find one then generally they're stupidly expensive.

Yep, you are stuffed. You can try Warranty Direct or Warranty Wise but i am sure you would get the same answer!
