Will clay bar remove black tar on paint?

Hi ppl,

My friend's white 328i got some kind of black tar on his car on the fenders under the door and also the back fender. Will a clay bar remove that? I'm thinking about using the Zaino Z-18 ClayBar but don't know if it'll work?

Anybody have any experiences removing black road tar on their cars?

Clay should help that. You may also want to try some Bug & Tar remover, I like this stuff:

The B&T remover above, then a good clean, and will have to reseal. Clay will get DESTROYED with that much tar.

Chemical Guys Grime Reaper will work well also

...or some lighter fluid that may be laying around works too. Most solvents will rid tar, except water of course.

I would avoid lighter fluid.. no offense haha. Try some good old Goo-Gone.

From the photo's this looks like fresh asphalt slurry seal that slung up......maybe they were sealing streets near by....

We use and recommend "Stoners" Tarminator or Zenit for tar and or adhesive removers........a big NO to lighter fluids.........

Whatever your choice of product is for the removal of the tar, use the chemical first. Do not rub to hard, let chemical soften tar and wipe. I recommend that you then neutralize area with a QD then you could give a light skim with clay. (Make sure tar remover is gone with QD or clay will get tacky) Follow with a premium pure polish, remove and then apply sealant or wax to finish off.

This is very good stuff. I have used it for bugs, tar and adhesives. I removed a rear spoiler on my last car and this stuff worked much better at removing the 3M tape than Xenit, or Goo Gone. There seemed to be no adverse effects on the paint either though I would wash and wax after.

+1 Grime Reaper - 100% strength it rocks.....I wrestled with the tar problem with differnt products till I foudn that stuff..... not to mention it cleans pretty much everything else too - 1 Chemical - TONS of applications.
