Error Code Issues - Any Thoughts?

Got some dreaded fault codes showing up, and looking for a bit of direction.

It originally showed up back after Christmas, couple of odd times, but went away. However, on Friday night, they came back and they're not leaving.

It shows error code 354 (Start Assist Inactive) and 382 (DSC restricted, Brake Pressure Sensor).

When it first showed up, I had a local place take a look, and they couldn't see anything. I rang up a dealer on the off chance, and was quoted £1699 (not fitted) for the part which would apparently alleviate the problem.

Has anyone else experienced these particular codes? Any advice on how to proceed?

Car is a 2007 LCI 330i.

Was the part in question the ABS pump?

Can't remember TBH. It was a case of the dealer saying that the part had to be replaced as a whole...

Could be DSC unit I guess. I believe there are repair kits available so would be quite a bit cheaper doing it that way.

ABS pressure sensor I've been told today.

There's apparently a BMW repair kit? Quite a common issue - so I was informed!

First quote is for the unit - close to £2700 fitted.....!

I'm hoping the repair kit comes in substantially cheaper......

Repair kit is around £800 I believe.

Or you could get it refurbed at ECUTesting for around £250.

Yeah send it off to ECU testing mate. By far the best option & lifetime guarantee.

Have a look on their site

Not sure if I have further problems - the ABS sensor is apparently a common, and not too horrendous a fix.

The fact I have the DSC issue as well - this seems (and on some advice) far less common an issue?

As far as I know an ABS sensor issue will also cause DSC issues as they use the same sensor.

I think i had this problem on my previous car. The fix used to be £1200+ but i went to an Indy and it cost me £370; there is some sort of "work around" solution.

From memory, the car was drivable but the ABS and traction control did not work. The part (i think) was about the size of a matchbox and fitted on the drivers side under the bonnet around where the windscreen joins. Thats laymans talk obviously.

Maybe take it to an Indy for a quote - nothing lost at that kind of money.

Can anyone recommend a good place to go to get this done? I'm on the Romney Marsh in Kent.

I've tried my usual place, but they've been stalling on this one - I spoke to Munich Legends (although they are a good way away), and they told me that they send it off to ECU Testing!

I'd rather drop the car off and pick it up when it's done - go for the easy option - but I'd like to find an Indy that's done it before, and knows the score. Thoughts?

After a bit of a non-starter with local indy (they were next to useless on this), I've booked it in for a diagnostic check with my main dealer tomorrow.

Typically, for the first time in a while, the error codes have vanished! However, I've been informed that unless they're cleared from the memory, they will show up on check.

I'm hoping it's not as bad as I think, as otherwise I can't work out why it would go off?

Redguy it sounds like the ABS pump mate, I had the same problem and from memory it threw out a DSC error at the same time. I looked through the forums and seems to be a common fault, although mine was on a 335i....not sure how you got on with the diagnostics today?

My main dealer quoted somewhere around £1500 for the work but after reading through all the comments on here, I got my local Indy to remove the pump, cap the brake lines and send it off to ECU testing where they confirmed it was faulty-they reconditioned it for something like £260 (with lifetime warranty) returned it to the Indy who refitted the recon pump and topped up brake fluid for about £100. Never had a problem since and that was 18 months ago.

Hope you get it sorted...mine was turned around in 7-10 days from removal to refitting

Exactly as Acschnitzer says.

99% certain it's your ABS pump that needs refurbishing.

Either remove and post off to ECUtesting (like I did with mine)

Or ring around some garages that would be happy to remove the unit (so you can post it off) and then refit.

Simples.

I'd recommend you call Mstyle in Romford, they will be able to get you sorted. Explain the problem to them in as much detail as you can and see what they can do, don't mention the price the dealer gave you, just explain the problem and see what they recommend.

I was in a similar predicament recently and Mstyle always come out on top, great guys down there, very knowledgeable. I believe it was Tony I dealt with when I had a problem, but they're all decent.
