For those of you not looking to pay a monthly charge,

usenetserver.com offers a 3-day for $3 access..

plenty of time to snag these files.

Android Newsgroup downloader is a free newsgroup client.

Newsleecher is the best one, but its a paid app, unless you're handy with your torrents

Speaking of torrents, wouldn't it be easier if someone just made one for this? Are these files necessary to code the newest cars?

problem with torrents is they only last as long as someone seeds them.

usenet is great because the data is stored on their servers and you're guaranteed max speed of your connection for the downloads.

i think thats why no one bothers with torrents. people leech, then close their client. torrent dead.

Not easier for me Usenet is way faster, normally get 28Mb speeds on 30Mb line, never had near that with torrents. Feel free to sign up to usenet and download, then create a torrent for eveyone else :-) As for what version you need for what car etc...they are the latest daten files so will do any cars inc. newest (backwards compatible).

Exactly m8 100% agree. Usenet is like unlimited icloud :-)

I'm sure with the combined coding communities a torrent would stay seeded. I for one would be happy to seed if I could just get the files in the first place.

I see that some usenet providers offer free trials. Is it safe to give my info to these sites?

Yes most are big companies and safe, giganews and newshosting I can vouch for as being good. Once you go usenet you will never use torrents again. Give it a try m8

I can vouch for giganews also... Usenet is great for more than just coding files. HD movies, console games, ISO's, you name it. good stuff..

I think the v45 is the complete file that includes all chassis.

I downloaded the v45 zip, moved it into grabit to extract the files. It shows 32 threads. Does it make sense that it should take about 4-5 hours to get these opened/downloaded? I'm trying to make sure I'm doing this right.

I'm brand new at this and couldn't get NCSExpert to work with V42 on my 2012 335

Hi it's about 12gb from memory so yes could take that long depending on your broadband speed. Once downloaded it will take a while to extract too. Just big files m8.

So, I opened up the folder where all these were extracted to. About 98 files for the E89, most are 89.part0## (1-87) RAR files. Then a couple of PAR2 files. I'm thinking these should be pasted into the NCSEXPER>Daten>E89 folder. I'm guessing I need to do something to them before moving them into that folder?

I'm sure it's a stupid question and covered in the Coding Success thread, but I have reading overload!

you need to rebuild these 87 .rar files back into the original spdaten file structure. And then from these folders, update per the BMW Coding guidelines. ON a Mac i use 'The Unarchiver'. On Windows you can use WinRar to rebuild from these 87 50 MB chunks

Peer12 is correct. The par and par2 files are used by a program called quickpar (free) which basically just checks the rar files are ok. You can ignore them if the rar files extract ok. To extract with winrar, just right click on the first rar file and choose extract. Then you will have the required files to use with ncsexpert. You can then delete the rar/par/par2 files if you want.
