By the way, where did you get the sail panel tweeter mount? Looks nice!

Why do you need to be a vapor barrier?

Well, when it rains, water will run down the outside of the window. There is a rubber seal there between the door and the window but it is not water tight. So water will get into the top of the door and drip down to the bottom (and onto anything along the way like a speaker magnet) and it will exit via drainage holes on the underside of the door. The vapor barrier will prevent the water from getting to the inside part of the door and leaking through the bottom of the door into your footwells. So basically the door is supposed to have two cavities... a dry one on the inside and a "wet" one on the outside.

By removing the vapor barrier, you are asking for trouble. You can replace it with Dynamat, but it needs to be absolutely water tight. Over time, and with high and low temperatures, the Dynamat adhesive may come loose, and you will have water coming into your car.

How do I know? - My wife's X3 had had a problem with wet floor boards on the drivers side. I took the door apart and indeed there was a tiny leak between the vapor barrier and the door, but large enough to flood the floor boards, produce mold, and make the car smell like cat urine for weeks!

You don't want that, trust me!

Yup, had the same issue here. It obviously too late for you to replace the vapor barrier since you already cut but make sure you have no leaks around the Dynamat and if you ever do notice water in your floor boards, that's probably where its coming from.

Mine was a tiny leak near the top of the barrier just under the tweeter. I peeled the barrier back a bit to install new wires into the door but when I put it back there was a portion of it left unsealed and when it rained hard, I would get water in my floor boards.
