I went to the dealership today... 335i pricing?
test drove the 335i again, and wanted to get a quote on a e90 335, and place the order over the weekend. Here is what I wanted:
- 6 Speed - Sport Pack. - Prem. Pack. - Winter Pack. - Rear Spoiler - Alarm - Silver External - Black Interior I decideed to be pretty conservative with the choice of color, so anyways...long story short - they quoted me $46,500.00 for everything except the sales tax. OMG  am I unrealistic or their price is tooooo high???? I excpected to see $43,000.00......Told the SA that I will not settle for anything above $43,000.00 even if I have to wait months for their price to go down to my price. I could not really negotiate, because I had a newbie SA that had to go ask her superiors, and come back to me...I even told them that I want to do the performace delivery (knowing that this will give them some room for discount) Anyways, I walked out.... PLEASE tell me if $43,000.00 is realistic for a 335 e90, since the demand is not that big as for the e92!!!

SA, or in this case, South ATLANTA is in USA, which is where you also are, both, at the same time |

You need to decide between paying a little more for a local dealer (free loaners, etc) and price.
Since you are doing PDC you can shop around with any dealer. Definitely try Adrian at BMW South Atlanta since he is local to you and is well regarded on this and other forums. But also consider Yves Badji at Passport BMW. I bought from them and it was the best car buying experience I ever had; 15 minutes on the phone and the deal was done. I had sent out other proposals but Passport was so painless I would have gone with them anyway. In the end, they had the best price. PDC opens your options. Try the Rizzo method: email 5 dealers with your itemized proposal showing the invoice prices for the car and all options (list by code) and the dealer profit. Tell them to reply back if they accept. If they don't reply, call them once (only once) to signify you are serious. If you get responses back play two or three off against each other... they will never let themselves get into a bidding war (like Chevy or Ford dealers might) but you might be able to squeeze some goodies out of them (though many throw these in anyway). Remember that the PDC will fill your tank automatically so don't think the dealer is giving that to you. Go for carpet mats, valve stem covers, etc. The alarm is a dealer installed option so you may have to negotiate that one. PDC will install it for you but you will pay a standard rate. But their mechanics are first rate so I say let them. I live in an area where there is no dealer competition so I might be more inclined to buy locally next time and pay a small premium for future service but if price is your chief concern then you have a lot of dealers from which to choose. As for your price, I think $43000 before tax is reasonable. PM me for a breakdown on your option choices.

How does this give them some room for a discount?

BTW, Adrian rocks. Talk to him. I doubt he can do it for a regular delivery, but you can definitely score an awesome deal with ED. Heck, I am flying out just for the weekend to pick the car up and still saving a bundle. -Brett

My dealer threw in carpet floor mats and tint (the best job I have ever had) in order to beat them. |

I am very sorry that I said South Africa...it was late and I think I was thinking of something else...
Anyways, from what you guys are saying, I can conclude that it will be very hard or cose to imposible to pull out $43,000.00 without ED...right? Maybe I will just wait a couple of months or so...but then we will get into summer season...

Whenever we have these pricing threads I feel we need to clear the porch so to speak. Lease, finance, trade, these all negate what's really being paid. Makes the bottom-line a moving target. And we all know the invoice vs. true invoice blah blah blah.
Simply take a list--46,470, which would be metallic, sport, premium, comfort access, cold weather. To buy that at 43k cash would be unrealistic imho. I personally know my friend bought his E46 ZHP at 4,100 off list when the E90 was already arriving. A true $3,470 off list now when people are waiting?? We saw people claiming they got $2700 off back in Oct. As soon as they mention it was a lease or trade, of course, the rates can compensate as can as can shorting the trade. imho even though I'm not in the market, I'd feel good about any "true" discount (reflected in a cash only deal) over 2 grand. my .02 |

There needs to be a big banner or sticky about pricing. It's not rocket science. No one should post a query about whether they are getting a good deal without doing the simple homework of determining the invoice price first.
It is very rare to get an E90 for less than invoice + 800 on regular delivery. Sometimes you can find a desparate CA, or they find a car that another dealer wants to dump, or the dealer has a bunch of 'fees' that jack their profit back up. An E92 will be more, invoice + 2k or even MSRP because they are in demand. ED is a different story because the car does not come out of the dealers allotment. But they also do not get the same credit for the sale from BMW NA. Maybe Alpine6, Adrian, or one of the other CAs could enlighten us further...

Always work from invoice, always check for behind the scenes 'dealer incentives' that lower invoice further -- although this is unusual for BMWs except for models that will be changed or are otherwise not in demand. Another price factor to consider is the rebate from BMWCCA.

These threads make me laugh!
Americans seem to think they are ENTITLED to a discount on ANY car they purchase, notwithstanding the fact that the car they want is in VERY HIGH DEMAND, it's as though the MARKET doesn't exist! |

ED is not a bargain unless you have plenty of time. I'm sure many on this forum work 60+ hr. wks. and despite having 4 wks vacation, can't possibly get away that much. To each his own. The BMWCCA discount is a good tip. But I heard that besides the magazine, and that discount, the club itself is disappointing in some areas, so I didn't join. I just borrow the magazine. |
