MHD/Wedge Stage 1 93 + FMIC v 5.3

Whats up guys. So I switched back to my MHD tune for the time being, and I really love the way the car feels right now. Still driving on this tune without an upgraded FMIC even though it is recommended, but it is way better than the 4.0 version! With my previous tunes, it almost felt like I could feel the first turbo spool and at about 4k it seemed as if the other turbo would "kick-in" and there was a jolt in power. With this tune it is smooth all the way through the RPM range, peaks at 18.5-19psi and drops toward redline (normal, I assume). Anyway just wanted to share because I love the way the tune feels on my car and until my new parts come in ill keep with this tune.. then onto custom dyno tune with 93 and e30/e40

BTW: did a pull with a newer s4 last night.. night sure what year it was but it had the quad exhaust and it was supercharged.. he pulled by half a car off the launch (did a 5mph roll) but by the end of first gear I was in front and kept pulling til about 110 when we slowed down.. Felt good!

EDIT: s4 had exhaust, intake and tune

I'm running this same tune without the FMIC as well. I agree, it feels really good in my car.

I want to run the FMIC tune but it is 90 degrees and humid in VA still.....plus I'd feel much better running it with an upgraded FMIC. Any of you guys running it have logs? Whats the major risk here? Heatsoak?

Yes, heat soak. High IAT, pulled timing. You may get a few good runs, but don't go all out. When it gets cooler you may be able to get away with it a little longer.

19psi on pump gas with a stock FMIC... Ouch! Your timing probably looks like shit, or you may get one decent gear pull then car is done for the night... I never ran over 15psi on pump gas with the stock FMIC, anything over that and the engine would knock, ECU pull timing.

Do you at least have downpipes?

Nope stock downpipes. I was told it was OK to just drive normally and do a few pulls here and there since I'm not like tracking the car or anything. Could i be damaging the car?

At 19psi with stock downpipes and stock intercooler, you run the risk of running extremely high exhaust temperatures that could damage the turbos.

With a stock intercooler (which is a POS on our cars), your intake air temperature is way too high (i've seen it going over 160°F with only 15psi boost) which leads into pinging/knocking, and possibly detonating, that's when the fuel/air mix in the cylinder ignites before the spark plug sparks, as the piston is still moving up, and in the worst case scenario you can bend a rod and it's bye bye engine.

It's your car but I would personally not run anything higher than 13psi on stock dp/stock IC and 15psi with dp/stock IC.

thats weird bc when i had dinan it would hit 14-15psi all the time and the cobb stage 1 hit 17.. i didn't realize it could cause this much damage. Ill tone it down

It's okay to hit 15psi on stock DP and IC if you do it only for a short period of time and not too often. Can your car hit 19psi with these stock components? yes, is it safe to do? no

I really recommend buying downpipes and an intercooler. VRSF makes some very affordable ones, you're looking at less than $800 in parts for piece of mind and lots of fun!

If you are logging, and not showing timing being pulled, you are fine. Octane is also a big factor as to how aggressive you can go. My car is happy as can be with a more aggressive tune but that would be due to ethanol and my driving style.

I have a chargepipe comming in...I plan on running stage 1, But would it be okay to run stage 1+ without the FMIC for about 3 pulls and go back to regular stage 1? I have a 335is and with the stage 1 + I think I can take my friends new srt 392 from DIG.

yeah your probably fine for a couple pulls just keep an eye on the IATs.. That's what I was told to look out for when running the Stage 1+ tune without an upgraded FMIC. Although I highly suggest getting the aftermarket FMIC asap.. Its a great and very crucial mod. Also highly suggest throwing in a few gallons of e85 and flashing the OTS e40 map with said FMIC.. then that 392 has zero chance.

I plan on getting the FMIC in august. But I just want to do the stage 1+ for the few pulls against the 392 then go back to stage 1..How quickly does the car heat up?

It really depends on the temperature outside and humidity and all that.. I was running stage 1+ in like 10-20 degree weather this past winter so my IAT's never really got that high because of how cold it was.. I see your in California so I assume its pretty warm out there at this time but a few pulls here and there are fine.. its really the back to back pulls that you gotta watch out for (or so I've been told)

most of you guys running just mhd? or jb4 with mhd? I've had the jb4 for a little over a year. I run mostly on map 1 (only 13psi) due to 93 gas (still pretty poor quality) and to not pull too much timing and to try to keep things safe/running right. I do have a FMIC. I've been thinking about adding the MHD backend flash with my current set up basically to just run a little higher boost with the current fuel i have available, sounds like the Back End Flash would allow me to do so with less risk. Anyone running a similar tune/set up?
