Now it's my turn - e93 just died
Beautiful day so we decided to go and have a look at some new furniture. Doing about 30mph about two miles from home and it started running really rough so pulled over and switched off.
Started her up again and it was running fine. Got another 5 miles and it did the same thing again but this time a warning light came on, half an engine highlighted in yellow, reduced power mode. Fortunately we were only about a mile from the dealer I bought the car from so we limped into there and they rang Mondial for me. From there we had to get a taxi home and now 2 hours later I'm sat waiting for the car hire company to ring and tell me what bus I'm going to get while they're looking at it. Bad news is the weather looks great next week and I'm going to miss it. Miopyk |

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.
Hope it gets sorted in a timely fashion.

Sorry to hear your without your E93.
I got mine back from the dealer last week after it being off the road for a month with exactly the same problem. I managed to get a Boxster as a loan car mainly because I said that I wouldn't accept anything unless it was a convertible, after all that's what you've paid them to provide. the gave me a mondeo estate at first and needless to say I blew my top at them. My advice is to keep hastling BMW Uk call centre. I got them to cover my loan payment for the period the car was off the and am seeking further compensation for the inconvinience that was caused. There may some good news however, apparently, the wait time for the part is coming down as the backlog is being cleared, but unfortunately, I would expect to be without your car for a few weeks. Good luck Keith

Well my day gets better, the hire car just turned up and it's a.......... Fiesta.
The girl that delivered it could see the disapointment on my face and jumped in to tell me that she was sorry that's all they had but it was a "1.4 Ghia", bless her (it wasn't her fault after all). I suppose it's better than when my second e46 vert broke down a few years ago in Cornwall. I got a 10 year old 106 diesel. You had to change down to 3rd to maintain any speed up hills on the motorways home. Anyway I guess I'll get myself geared up for the inevitable round of phone calls tomorrow and we'll see what happens. Miopyk |

Just out of interest, do all the petrol models use the same fuel pumps? I haven't been following closely, but thought this was a 335i problem... I do feel sorry for everyone who's been affected by this - must be a real pain, especially if the replacement parts are on back-order...

Seems to be a problem with the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay of the direct injection petrol engines.
Therefore I think it's only going to be an issue for 335i and E92/93 with the newer engines. I did also find this post with a quick search Quote:

Well the dealer confirmed that it's the fuel pump and surprise, surprise they can't tell me when they will get the part in as they are on back order from Germany.
I've had a vent at the dealer and BMW GB and they are going to get together tomorrow morning to see what car etc. they are going to give me while I'm waiting for mine to be fixed. As you can probably guess I am not happy. Miopyk |

Just to whet my appetite, does the 335d make a real 'traditional' knocking diesel sound...or is it more subtle than that? Back to the subject of this thread....sorry to hear about the Fiesta, that really is taking the p***. Fingers crossed that you get something more 'fitting' tomorrow. |

I've had the same problem with my 320i M Sport so it's no just the 335i models... I got a Zafira for 2 days (which was great as I decided to re turf my garden) but I then got a spanking new 320d saloon... it's nice, but it's not my e92 on 19"s with red leather

Hi Is this fuel pump problem just on the 335's or on the 320i's as well. Just taken delivery of a E93 /320i Auto and am not going to be happy if it dies.
How easy is to to see what make of fuel pump is installed (asks one who rarely lifts the bonnet!) Alex |

Is the same fuel pump used on the 320si as well?
As I have engine timing problem which seems to be affecting my acceleration performance. Does this fuel pump fault show up in the engine fault code history?? |

The problem is with the high pressure pump in the engine bay. There is a low pressure pump in the rear of the car like normal to get the fuel to the engine. But then there is a high pressure pump to get the 2000 atmospheres or something daft for the direct injection of the fuel. It is this second pump that is failing. As yet the E90/91 don't have the smaller capacity direct injection engines so are free of the problem on all but the 335i. There seems to be all sorts of crap and rumours flying about new parts and when and where they are being / will be fitted. Do a little and you'll get loads of hits. At the moment it still seems like a lottery, so good luck to you all.

Brief update:
Still don't know when I'm getting a new pump but I'm now driving a new 520d. Not want I want and the dealer is currently trying to source a droptop. I've advised that unless they can start giving me some answers I'm considering rejecting the car. If this happens I think I'll go and get another CLK. Miopyk |
