SA Says there's TSB on my car. Should I do it?

Does this number sound right?

653407

Something about programming multi-function something or other?

Is this the 29.2 progman that everyone is hating?

Thanks

Not 29.2 per se... the TSB says to program with 27.1 or higher....

should I not have it done?

From the TSB:

"CORRECTION
Do not replace parts!
Program the vehicle with Progman V27.2.1 or higher (target data status E089-07-09-521 or higher)."

I am not an expert on Progmans, but I would bet they would update you to the latest progman. Given the complaints about turbo lag, I probably would not risk it.

Most dealers should be at least at v30.00.00 (distributed via DVD) or even v30.00.01 an online update.

Do some more research. If you're trying to avoid the turbo lag that was introduced in v29.2, make sure it was resolved. From what I hear, it hasn't been. Even in the 30.x versions. GL

There is no resolution to the boost lag issue introduced with 29.2, it persists with the new 30.x out there now.

Go over to the tuning forum and read the 29.2 boost lag reports. It's shocking. The bottom line is that you should avoid any Progman updates until the issue is resolved. Personally though I don't think it is going to change because IMO, BMW is deliberately degrading the performance of the car to widen the performance gap with the M3 and also to lower stress on the turbo system which has apparent durability issues even on stock cars.

go see the thread where steve@dinan says they are not flashing 29/30 into the ecu because they don't want to induce lag. they are overwriting the ecu with (27?) until this is worked out. this is good news. for dinan flash owners.

bmw upgrades the ecu to 29, PA reflashes it back to 27(or whatever they are using) good to go.

steve just posted it in the FI forum go read it. its very good news.

quite honestly. i wouldn't upgrade. if the PA roaches your ecu you'll get an MSD81 and there is no 335i flash yet for that. It's just not worth the hassle and downtime to potentially have issues imo.

I'd just rather drive it as-is until 15K service.

Yup. Also the hype is out there that these cars are capable of doing amazing things, so people who don't know will still buy.

Hmm they just updated my car and I thought I noticed some extra lag in the car...dammit. But after a few days i think it may have gotten better. I'll have to pay attention.

I guess I should have checked back with this forum first, but I had an appointment and did the progman.

It might have been a mistake. I don't know about the turbo lag, but now my car starts rough and idle is weak for a few seconds. And the exhaust note seems to be noticeably lower in idle and 1st gear, which isn't bad but I wonder what they did to it?

My SA's first question is about my gas, of course. Says their might be too much ethenol in it. I use Chevron 93 octane. I just filled up and it's still vibrating at start up and feels weak.

Can you go back to 27.x?

Hmm, I dunno. If anything, your dealer may make you pay to put it back at a prior version -- if they could do it at all. I guess the first step would be to ask...
