I hate to bring up a potentially dead thread, but this really helped me recently. Is a shoulder check not needed when another car is potentially merging into the lane that you are intending to go to? For example, if you are trying to merge into a lane, wouldn't your blind spot be altered because your car is now at a different angle and cannot see the other merging car in your blind spot?

Also, what's the order that you guys usually check before merging. Do they teach in HPDE to look at rear, side, peripheral, then merge? Sometimes I just look at the side mirrors if it's quick change.
