Why do people recommend map 1 over 2 on a JB4
My 335i is 100% stock other than the JB4 and running 93 octane. The guy who installed it put it at map 2 and said that is where I would want it. But after reading on here that it is too aggressive for a stock car? And that I should be running map 1? Is this true?
If so why is it that you can get a DCI, intercooler and downpipes and then the map 2 is ok? |

Map 2 boost levels are too aggressive for 93 octane IMHO. You can run it, but you'll need at least 25-30% ethanol mixed in to have a safe ignition advance.

run map5 for you. Autotune map to your mods, its not only for the people running e85.

ok so from reading that once i get a DP and say a DCI then I can run map 2 and be safe?
And being 100% stock I can run map 5 with all 93 octane in my tank but if I want to I can add 1/4 tank of E85 for more power? And if I dont want to mess around with E85 and just run 93 octane I can run map 1 or map 5 correct me if Im wrong |

correct.. and you can run map 5 all the time no matter what octane it will automatically adapt
If you want max power and no worries run map 5 its always safe

How you like that intercooler? Was it an easy install? And is it keeping things real cool? LIke have oil temps dropped at all because of it just being cooler overall under there? Actually you have basically all the mods I want to do. In what order did you do your mods and which mod other than the JB4 was the next best one you think? Im thinking this order DCI DP VRSF Intercooler |

intercooler is great.. not bad to install.. it wont help oil temps but it makes a big difference in air intake temps. If i were you id order the DCI and Downpipes next to allow for more boost safely... then id find some e85

I guess Ill order the BMS DCI tonight and then the downpipes monday Did you install the downpipes yourself? If so how long did it take and were you on stands while laying on your back or did you have it up on a lift |

I did the DP install myself.. i used a lift it took about 3hrs.. if i had to do it again i could do it in an hr or so.. doing it on jack stands while laying on your back would suck alot

But yes, use map 1 if your stock with just 93 octane. Map 5 will normally auto-adjust to near or below map 1 levels, depending on how your car runs. E85 will allow you to run more boost without running into potentially harmful timing drops and ignition corrections

I have almost 1/2 tank of 93 right now. Say I go to 3/4 with 93 octane and then put 1/4 E85 in. Should I run map 2 or map 5? |

You can run either but map 5 will probably give you a little more power than map 2. And all maps take into account E85 content and adjust to a certain extent. But map 5 is the map that is basically made for E85 usage. Did you get the JB4 G5 board or the regular JB4 G4? Map 2 targets certain boost targets while map 5 autotunes to make your own, i guess you can say "custom boost targets" depending on your mods and octane. It also adjusts to the current temperature outside, how dense the air is ect... Map 5 is a safer map to run for sure. Especially if you dont have the supporting mods. The stock intake is pretty good so get you some good downpipes and throw some E85 in there, set it to map 5 and your car is going to transform lol. def get an intercooler too because most all intercoolers reduce intake air temperatures when your doing run after run which is good for the turbo's. Your about to have some fun my friend

Map 5 can give you more boost with an E85 mix if conditions are right. Map 2 is fixed & does not adjust
