Wow. I thought this thread died. I kind of gave up after a while since I couldn't get my own setup working. I was able to code the KOMBI module, and the FA, but when i tried to code FRM i got that 'transmission disturbed' or whatever error. I think my battery is failing so I'm waiting to replace that to try again. I apologize if my archive caused you any inconvenience. I may remove it if it continues to give problems to users here.

Totally no apologies necessary. Wasn't my intent to make it appear that in any way your contribution hindered me. In fact, if I didn't load your INPA program (which gave me NCS, EDIABAS, etc), I probably wouldn't have gotten my cable to work properly. About all I had to change was to bring in the updated EDIABAS and your v45 DATEN.

I downloaded both from your links, thank you by the way.
I am new at this coding, I don't even have a cable yet but I will be asking a question or 2 as I go into my learning curves. Do I need progman or can I use the other files with ediabas and ncs, etc.. |

depends on what you want to do.. NCSExpert is used for low level (and possibly dangerous) coding. INPA is a code interpreter for most BMWs. As i understand ProgMan is a simpler UI (encapsulates INPA, and NCS Expert) used by dealers. You can code with NCS Expert without having ProgMan configured if that is what you are asking

Progman is very difficult to install
After a month I still can get it to go . There are all kind of bugs in it that require patches the most common of which is the Interface Cable bug as it just won't work with a common cable without exactly the right patch. Also there is another patch for most bus cars. It also depends on the fact you have and up to date version of ediabas and inpa working under it. DIS57 is fairly easy to get working if you have the vmware working with it. The easiest version of the three (inpa , ediabas and ncsexpert)to get working I have come across so far is juniors original you just download it and it works.
You will have to use vmware to install progman and dis57 as all the versions I have found are based on it. I am not and IT Engineer but am fairly experienced on computers and this is not that straightforward for a part time geek. |

DIS is great but very slooow , inpa and ncs - perfect for customising car, and issa ( ista p daten v45.2) is using for update car modules to the newest software.
Why would anybody want to use progman these days ? |

use the files from DIY for less stress
Quote:
i downloaded his zip file, followed his instructions (a variant of the BMW Coding Success!!! thread) and was up and running in 10 minutes. Phil's DIY package is SPDATEN v41. So if you need to code the newest cars find a post on updating NCSExpert to version 45. It's working great on 2007, 2008, and 2011 E9x cars this week

I have read in so many posts on this coding.
I read somewhere that the one program does not work with (64 bit) I was going to run out to grab a knock around laptop but wanted to double check since the one I am shooting for has Windows 7 (64 bit) I don't want to buy it and than it doesn't work. I also read somewhere that it works best with Windows XP. So the link provided here on page 1/post 1 is good with windows 7 (64 bit) Anyone have any problems installing it and using it on theirs? Thanks |

If you're looking to code a 2007, I would think you could use everything from the OP's first pos,t, but certainly via the link that Peertwelve?? Last edited by wdlfbio; 02-23-2012 at 07:05 PM.. |

The only thing with the link via peertwelve is the daten version is v41. Some have said v41 needs to be upgraded to v45? I will assume for now that the v41 will work with my 07. Maybe the newer version will not communicate with my 07 as windows 7 wouldn't communicate with versions from XP. I hope that made sense lol |

If you're going to code your car with NCSExpert and your car's software has been recently updated at the dealer then updating to version 45 probably makes sense. You could use the DIY post and then follow this guide to update to v45 updating to SPDATEN45 is simple. on your coding rig open a command prompt. navigate to c:\SPDATEN 45 DIRECTORY\daten. execute the batch file laden.bat. if you want to see what the command does, then do something like this: c:\spdaten45\daten\laden.bat > c:\laden.txt run the command and then open laden.txt to see what was updated

I was able to unpack and install your BMW_Coding_Apps_v2.rar on my Win7 Ultimate 32 bit OS. I bought a cable from Ebay seller Alborz1010 that claims to support K and D-CAN so it should work for my 2009 E90. I'll report back when I receive it in about 10 days.
