I was driving my car this weekend when I got a warning message saying oil level below minimum. I parked the car and when I came back out the next morning there was a pretty substantial puddle of oil on the ground at the right front of the car. I checked under the hood and it appears that the lower braided line going to my oil cooler has rubbed against the radiator fan shroud and rubbed a hole through the oil line.

I was just wondering if anyone else on here has had similar issues and if I can just replace it with a standard hose from somewhere like Jegs or if I would need to purchase a replacement from Dinan. I'm sure it won't be cheap from Dinan.

No you should be fine with oil line from jegs. Try buying hose that is the same brand as your old hose and fittings. If you cannot find the brand buy the appropriate size from jegs.

Had the same problem with my CP-E oil cooler, I have rubbed through twice, the second time flooding my garage with oil. My mechanic was in there for another job and ran some reinforced lines and *knock on wood* haven't had any issues since.

I just check my Dinan oil cooler lines and can't see how they would be rubbing against the fan. Both lines are tied together and sit outside the fan shroud cover that is between the spinning fan and the oil lines. Then again I did have my unit installed by a Dinan dealer so maybe that's why I have not had an issue since installed. Maybe my shroud cover is different?

I actually just had a convo with ER about this and their recommendation was to keep the oil lines secured to the engine since it will move separate from the shroud/body. I don't really see a good area to secure "away" from the shroud. OP is your line NOT attached to the shroud, but loose in that area and rubbed over time?

If it was installed by a Dinan authorized dealer within the last 2 years, then take it back to an authorized Dinan dealer, it will be replaced under their warranty

If it has been more than 2 years from the install or not installed by an authorized Dinan dealer then do some shoping around on prices

It wasn't rubbing against the fan. Its rubbing against the fan shroud. I guess over time it wore through the line.

It has been over 2 years since it was installed.

I read a post that ar design oil coolers have had similar issues and that whenever anyone has this issue they send them the braided SS lines for free. I wish Dinan would do the same.

No not yet. I wrote them an email today but haven't received a response. I'll call tomorrow if I haven't heard back. This was Steve Dinan's personal car so maybe they will do me a favor and send me one for free.

I bet they send you new cables free, Dinan is a very reasonable company especially Steve or Scott are very customer oriented.

Has anyone tried using a hose separator like the one below to secure the lines together and maybe zip tie it to something?

You can use something as simple as a zip-tie "bridge" to separate hoses and make routing easier. Wrap a large zip-tie around both hoses, leave it loose, then wrap another zip-tie around the first zip-tie in between the hoses. Tighten them both up and trim the ends flush.

I've seen the same rubbing on a customer car years ago. It was over $100 for the pair of hoses, but we managed to catch it before it became a problem.

You can get anyone who makes hydraulic lines to put new hose and crimps on. Might be cheaper than if you have to pay for the hoses out of pocket. But I'd ask the guys at Dinan to help out, since it was obviously their install. He said that 335 was for his wife, but I've heard stories of him doing some interesting demo rides with it.

Rubbing oil lines is a common culprit with aftermarket oil coolers. I recommend all people with aftermarket oil coolers to double check their installs. This could be a disaster waiting to happen for some. A quick zip tie is all that is needed to avoid this in the future.

So just zip tie them together and that's it or also zip tie the lines to something?

Apparently the line is $212 from Dinan. So I think I'll just find one from another source because I know I can find it cheaper than that.

I had the same issue about one year ago with my AR Design oil cooler. Oil leak while driving to a week-end holiday, not fun having to have it towed back.

The oil lines delivered with aftermarket oil coolers are usually low-quality braided ones that I've already seen leaking in other cars as well. I would always recommend to replace them with proper steel dash lines, even if that obviously is quite expensive. The advantage is that they're basically indestructible and also do not expand so much under pressure and heat as the braided ones. Dash lines are also habitually used in motorsport applications for these reasons.

maybe this what just happened with my stett oil cooler...I have oil all over the lines like they are wet. The stett uses way to long of lines from oil cooler to thermostat and rubs on the inner fender no matter what slightly.....from thermostat to oil housing is a good length but they have rubbed on the shroud a bit.

I had a similar issue with my ER Sport cooler - one of the fittings was defective initially, and then one of the hoses got itself looped up against the intercooler (mine is an ETS unit) T-clamp where it meets the turbo output. I replaced the nylon braided hoses with steel braided units, double-checked the installation instructions, and then used several tie-wraps to keep the lines together and routed away from the intercooler piping and the screws that hold the plastic underpan on (they have sharp points that protrude into the space where the lines are). And yes, it is possible to replace the lines without pulling the bumper - just remove the plastic underpan completely and you'll have access to the fittings on both ends. I got new ones from ER, but you should be able to buy aftermarket lines with the correct fittings. Just make sure they're exactly the same length and fitting types as the originals or you may encounter some line routing issues.
