Finally - F30 335d
Seems the F30 335d xDrive is due to hit the showrooms in July. Fast car....

Could be much faster though, if they are going xDrive only then they should release the M550d engine for the 3'er

Is this quicker than the 335i? Quick google shows that as taking 5.5 to 62.
Looks like this 335d is also much quicker than the 330d. (4.8 vs 5.5) Unlike the previous generation where the difference was only .2 As the 330d is not available in manual, no argument for getting it over the 335d other than cost! |

It's a shame for me though. I would have one, but I REALLY dislike the F-series cars. They don't look particularly good from the outside, and the screen looks like a cheap afterthought, as does that horrible stripe they put on the trim. And the 3 series is a bit too small. Now, a 535d / 540d / 550d in a touring, with x-drive, and I'm all in. |

I suspect they'll keep it as a 5/6/7 engine only like the 4.4 TTV8

The torque alone is enough to keep me interested.
The general performance figures look good although I concur with xs2man, I don't like the F series just yet... possibly might consider a facelifted F10 for a bit larger size.

i'm very glad this is coming out , I thought i read that the 35d was being ditched in favour of the 335i+electric motor !
At least now I can relax and not worry about having to buy a newer E92 and make it last ! |

Friedrich Nitschke confirmed the tri turbo diesel does fit the F30, I remember reading it in an interview, however he would not comment any further. I think the reference to the article is on the ///M Wikipedia page if you're interested.
The problem with the M550d was not with the engine rather the xdrive system as I understood it, the RHD F10 could not cope with xdrive. I read yesterday on autocar or autoexpress there is a rumour that the next Alpina D3 will be a modded 335d. However it'd just be nice to get the 50d engine in something other than an SUV. It'd be more than nice. It'd be amazing. The europeans and americans get the M550xd. I'd take a 2WD varient, and kill people to get the same in a 3'er... if they are prepared to fit a proper diff that can cope. Even at a price premium.
Although with the way their pricing and marketing is going, and given I'm a few years off the wrong side of 30: I strongly foresee going for either the M235i or M2 proper, rather than another 3 (or 4. Sigh) series.

I plan to run my E91 into the ground, hopefully a good 10 years or so yet. By then I imagine hybrid engines will be commonplace - and far superior to any single-fuel engine. I'll bide my time

The F30 335d is now on the BMW configurer. Not so good news regarding the exhausts as not the same arrangement as the E90 335d. Unless they cocked the picture up. Looks like a 325d/330d etc...
Also, the guys on the F30 forum are saying the xdrive M Sport variants DO NOT come with M Sport suspension. And this includes the 335d as this is only xdrive, at the moment. This is backed up by the fact you cannot specify the M Sport suspension delete - as it was not fitted in the first place. So xdrive models ether M-Sport, Luxury or SE etc.... apparently all come with standard suspension. You can still spec adaptive suspension but I believe this only controls the damping and not the ride height of the xdrive models. The xdrive rides a lot higher than similar variants. |
