aFe Intake question

I have a 328xi and I was looking at aFe intakes, I heard about fitment issues with the Xi's, whats the deal with that? Anyone with an Xi have this fitted in their car? Also, they have 2 different aFe intakes, one has the active steering, I am a little confused, what is the active steering? How do I know if I have active steering or not?

i m driving 2009 328i xdrive, so i guess it's more or less same as ur 328xi?

i never encountered fitment issues?! i just installed like 3 weeks ago.. everything is cool and nice

I would pass on the AFE intake and just go with the charcoal delete with a K&N drop in, or go with the euro box if your set on having something. Call it a day.

I believe my cap is NOT green, so I need the one without active steering? Then there is PRO DRY S, and PRO 5R, whats the difference?

anything with sound is going to be a loss in power mostly because it's not fully enclosed. If you really wanted something with sound w/o sacrificing too much performance I would go with the GruppeM although that is $$$$$ unless u can find a used one. I would just go with a charcoal filter delete and a drop in. If you want cheap sound go for a muffler delete, it'll actually cost less than an intake and much more noise

I have a magnaflow muffler. Since I have a muffler, I also need an intake as well

You don't need an aftermarket intake. If you are looking for some gain do the charcoal filter delete and drop in filter. If you are looking for more sound I suggest deleting the resonator/secondary cats. It's not worth it to get the aFe or Injen intake just for the sound purpose when your intake is already better than it.

If I am not mistaken, the BMW Performance Intake should fit your car. It will improve the sound of the engine and will definitely NOT reduce its power. Actually BMW says that it will increase the power of the engine, and it costs a little less than the GruppeM one.

YEs that's the way to go if you got a bit of cash to blow. Othewise do the carbon filter delete, and K&N drop in filter and call it a day. I would pass on AFE, I owned it for about a year. The sounds is awesome but the lack of power on take off made me get rid of it.

I can vouch for how bad the afe intake is. Had it less than 3 days, horrific surging and huge power loss.

+1 on that..

Not to mention is almost unusable in the summer time due to the fact that it becomes a HAI, hot air intake.

PROs
Nice sound.
A slight gain of HP at high speeds.

CONs
Suck in hot air from the engine
Stock civics will smoke you on take off due to the power loss.

I am using aFe intake with bmw performance exhaust, everything ran smooth and no power loss as u mentioned...!

ya my car is not green either, so i ordered the intake without active steering...

PRO DRY S is in grey color.... less maintainence

PRO 5R is blue in color.... oiled filter... greater performance
