Golf R Leasedeal
I know a lot of you guys have done lease deals - i never have.
In short - change of circumstances means i might have to sell my 996 turbo, but want something i can enjoy - and not lose my shirt over. I saw this: http://www.fleetprices.co.uk/persona...r-5dr-15145430 Which looks a great deal for me - and means 2 yrs no stress motoring. Thoughts??

They are good cars. Not as good or quite as fast as the internet fan boys tell you though.
I've no idea why they are continuously pumping them out on cheap deals. From what I read there is a big wait for one now. About 20 weeks. Everyone seems to have leased one. Nobody is buying them. My local dealer had a new one for sale for 6 months and couldn't shift it. The lease deals have killed the sales. VWs hold their value well, but I'd be too scared to buy an R as in a couple of years the market will be saturated with them. Cars are too expensive these days. More people are leasing and buying on PCP deals giving the dealers far more control of the market. The Golf R is going to get a bad name I think. It is so accessible with the cheap leases the cars already seem to be in undesirable hands. All young lads that look out of place in a £30k car. |

It wasn't the young thing I was getting it. It was the type of young person that seem to be accessing the car as it's so cheap. |

My pal is a salesman for vw and he took me out for a soin in it and fit a 2litre it's fast not silly fast but enough to keep up with most things. And the dsg gearbox in unbelievable but that car with the extras came in at £38000. That's a lot for a golf well that's a lot for any car.
But even he says why would anyone buy one when you can lease. He says as soon as you drive it off the forecourt it's lost £8000 or not far off. It's £500 deposit and £205 a month and that over 2 years is £5420 so you've paid out less in 2 years than it's probably depreciated as soon as you drive it away. For that money you could get a nice m3 or nissan gtr and a lot of other nice cars for that matter. |

There are so many of these on the road now. I think i've seen 1 mk7 GTi in the last few months but must see at least 2 or 3 R's every day. I would bet my testicles they are all on these cheap lease deals.
At the price they want for most of the leases i don't see how you can fault it. Everything that's been said about undesirables etc is probably right but who cares. I've recently decided that cars are far more about enjoyment than what some other prick thinks of you due to the model/badge etc. Despite the fact most are going to be thrashed when sold as used the prices will still be high. This is because the lease companies and dealers that get them back will have almost FULL control over pricing as there will be next to no private cars.

Anyone thinking about this needs to jump on it quick. VW are going to call time on this deal real soon.
Any deliveries after the end of March may not be honoured. And build dates are already in April. WM |

How does the no maintenance part work? Does that mean if it breaks they don't fix it? Or that you have to pay for your own service?
That is a crazy deal for a personal lease |

As with any new car it has a manufacturers warranty. So if the turbo blew up (some do appear to be having issues) VW would fix it. Non maintained means you have to pay for consumables like brakes, tyres etc and will also have to pay for servicing. Which will probably only be 1 service on a 24 month 10k lease.
I contacted a company about one of these deals today. I was quoted middle of April for delivery. No way could I wait 6 months. I'd be bored with it even before I got it.

Reading some of the averages, some guys average lower 20s, with mid 20s being the most common place. Nursing it on the motorway can see you get into the 40s, but mid 30s is about the average. I guess you'll always struggle to get good economy with almost 300bhp, but to fall so short of claimed figures and to be beat by the M135i with a 50% bigger engine and 50% more cylinders, isn't so good. |

I'm going to order a 5dr DSG tomorrow, this deal is too good to pass.... I was looking to spend 18k on a 335d..... after 2 years it'll be worth around 10-12k - the used F models will kill the prices.
So might as well get a brand new car with no worries! |
