i contacted bmw dealership in ajax and he told me NOT. there is a bulletin for it but no recall. i can read in the US this might be covered under warranty but i can't tell if that is the case in canada. who can i contact? i am out of warranty. |

I had mine done in May under warranty as well of last year at Mississauga. Showed them the noise the waste gate was making and I had no issues.

how bad is the rattle? I had my turbo's replaced under warranty, but after I notice a slight rattle sometimes when accelerating in 2nd gear, almost like the wastegates opening up and closing as I get on and off the gas...
does anyone know where I can hear this noise online recorded, of a more serious example of "wastegate rattle" ? Thanks |

It sucks big time, the car sounds like pots and pans, what a shame for a car of this magnitute, ruins the whole experience specially summer time when the windows are open. replacing the turbos seems to fix the problem temporarly and eventually will come back. It must be a permament fix for it. I hate the car because of this. I've never had a car that sounds this bad.

i had mine done under warranty on my last car ('07) when it had 74k. they replaced both wastegates under warranty with no issues or hassles. the car had 125k on it when i traded it in and the problem never came back.
my '08 is not showing this issue...finger's crossed. i just picked up the '08 yesterday so i'm going to take it to Maranello ASAP for an inspection before the warranty expires.

This is the thread you want to read. It should answer your question.

To tell you the truth, I know very little about mods. I plan to get my car in a couple of weeks and do not plan to mod it anytime soon.
Someoe should be able to recommend a shop for you to replace the wastegates. How about call around some of the shops that are already recommended. I'm sure you can save about $1000. I read quickly the info on the Procede and I think there will be an increase in fuel consumption. Unless, you were planning to mod your car anyways. |

Fuel consumption? i am averaging 17l per 100km.
i have had v6 american cars burning way less fuel than this monstrosity. not to mention all the problems associated with this car. if you haven't gotten your car make you get one with warranty. people are not joking when they say these things cost money. so far lots of stuff failed on my car and i wish i had the warranty. if the breaking things continues i just might ditch this money pit. |

17L/100km... that is a lot. You must be doing a lot of city driving.
Has the fuel consumption been like that since day 1 of owning the car? There has to be some reason why the bad fuel economy. The car I am going to get is a 2009 so it will have 1 year warranty left. I am considering purchasing extended warranty, but for BMW to sell extended warranty, they have to be making money it. 2010 and earlier vehicles are covered through 3rd party, whereas 2011, BMW covers the extended warranty. Someone must have done the math to determine the percentage of vehicles coming in for extended warranty work or else the dealerships or 3rd party would not be making money. My brother talked to a mechanic who was been working at a BMW dealership for 10 years and asked him about extended warranty. His reply was; if you want it for peace of mind do it but the majority of issues they see are usually after the vehicle passes 120,000km. Just giving you a different perspective. |

I appreciate that but MY perspective which if someone who owns this car is to get extended warranty. This car is a money pit, be prepare to spend on it, look at the technical service bulletin for this car. it goes forever. something will go wrong and you don't want to be paying for it.

17l/100km?! You have a different problem entirely. I do 9-10l/100km when I'm driving like a sane person. Unless you're just flooring it everywhere, heavily tuned, then that seems very excessive.

Open up a thread in the n54 section, I'm sure there are some solutions. Just adding that I'm FBO and I get better milage than you stock!
Back on topic: OP, Endras sucks. Try BMW Toronto. I argue with Endras all the freakin time, but I hear great things about Toronto. WG rattle plus whine is likely cause for replacement. edit: Just saw that you're out of warranty. IMO, you're SOL. I recall a thread where people were pushing BMW NA for a 10yr warranty on turbos, but don't remember what became of it. Sorry OP. Last edited by Tzu; 05-28-2012 at 09:37 AM.. |

I know you already checked with the dealership in your away but I am here at Parkview BMW and asked SA about turbo warranty. SA said that the turbo warranty should be covered under US warranty, which should be 7 years. She was not able to confirm at the moment. I could not stick around for too long. Please look into it. Don't give up.

Had the rattle on my old 335. They replaced the turbos and it was better till it happened again and they replaced then a second time.
The rattle came back a third time but I was returning the car off lease this time around. I'm hoping they fixed this and it never happens to my 335is |
