Magnaflow Direct fit N52 Headers/Exhaust manifolds with Cats

Discovered this while browsing e46fanatics
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=823471
http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showt...650#post162650

Apparently, Magnaflow makes a Header style exhaust manifolds with catalytic converters.

Sypnosis:
  • Direct bold on
  • Less weight, about 40-50%
  • Flow is better, gains felt and some dyno'd, more HP for supercharged e46 vs non
  • Can be coated or wrapped
  • One supercharged e46 blew out the cats within months, others report no issue

e9x n52 parts 3 Series
Front: 49762

Rear: 49763

EDIT 2: ignore 1series parts below, apparently never in production.
EDIT: 1 series Specific( ignore this)
e82/e88/e87 n52 1 series (no images)
Magnaflow 49750 Front; Magnaflow 49751 Rear

Cost: 700-850 each front and rear(the cheaper manifold)
Cheapest place is truckpartshub.com, but not sure if credible there are mixed reviews

For e46 the 3d images looked accurate to the real deal:

yes they remind me of Euro N53 Stock Exhaust manifolds, Euro 5 compliant. Parts 18407568613, 18407568614.
I wonder if these N53 parts would work too, and if so, which would flow better.

Which , in turn look like 2006 130i/330i Euro N52 exhaust manifolds,Euro 4 compliant:
130i:

330i:

http://www.dparts.com/onderdeel/2879...erie-E90-Sedan
The plot thickens...

This is definitely cool stuff. I didn't get to go through your posts well the first time. Thanks for putting in the research.

In the case of the e46 headers, the fact that they are lighter is not fully explained. Is it because they used thinner piping? or is it the weight of the aftermarket cats, maybe both?

The euro 330i headers are a cool design. I wonder if there are gains to be had by them. I would love to get my hands on a set. The flange at the ports looks exactly like the north american manifolds.

So now we have the following and correct me if I am wrong:

North American Headers for N52
  • 323i & 328i & 128i Are the same
  • 528i uses the same collector but different shaped piping afterwards
  • z4 - unknown collector and piping specs
  • x3 - unkown collector and piping specs
  • x5 - unknown collector and piping specs

Euro Headers
  • 130i & 330i - Completely different collector

I really do not know, it could be both. Stainless steel vs OEM alloy

Yes, very interesting... especially if catless. Magnaflow may be the cheapest option for a new item, otherwise its shipping charges for used euro stuff. With euro you run into the question of choosing between Euro 4 emmision vs Euro 5 vs n53 gunea-pig risk.

Seems legit ... lol
For z4, does SuperSprint claim their product works?

North American
323i & 328i & 128i Are the same - NA version perhaps. Except the other user claiming later 328i got n53/euro style n52 manifolds.

Euro
130i & 330i - Completely different collector = Perhaps same shape and all as the euro n53
EDIT: NOT likely to be the same shape and all as the euro n53. I looked at my own links again... euro 330i n52 has massive cats. Even for the 125i in europe, Euro 5 compliant

Yeah....this thread shows us that there is actually a lot of choice. I think the main categories are North American Collector, Euro Collector, and Magnaflow. I would like to see which operates best as a catless header.

I just checked the euro x5 3.0si. It has the same 3 pipe collector as the euro 130i. The plot thickens.

Has anyone since been down this road? I might be willing to guinea pig the N53 euro headers. Got a friend that does work like this on the side.

You can import Euro spec exhaust manifolds for cheap?

I think you should check prices of Supersprint, email them directly. They surprised me with their quote. Seemed abit better than what you find from resellers

my headers will do what supersprint would do. $600 and you get over $100 worth of gaskets as well.

Headers sounds promising, comes with O2 Sensors or anything to combat the "Check Engine" light if it comes on?

check my threads I have made. They are custom built from scratch stainless steel manifolds proven to have 12whp 15wtq and no sound increase.

does not come with any 02 sim. you can buy the bms downpipe fix for when you need to pass emissions. I believe it is recommended not to use the sim long term because it messes with lambda adaptations.

If you are talking about my headers then yes. They will fit. I just realized that I made my jig from cats off of a 328xi.

Where are you in Chicago that you have a sniff test?

All the places I've been to only check OBD "readiness" values and for any CEL involving emissions systems, no sniff test at all.

if you del the main cat you wont pass. Our fourm member mapleridge's del the main's.

so you'd have to put on a hi flow or mount up the stock main cats somehow
