You could have actually been arrested at that speed and your car impounded, so I guess you did "win".
Where in NJ was this. There are some towns here that would've ruined your life for a stunt like that. Lol |

This is the one thing that a good radar detector is perfect for: Driving at night on near deserted roads. The only time I really open up my car is at night, no one around me on the road, and no bridges or other places a patrol car could hide. AND total quiet from the Valentine One. Any of the above conditions are not met, I slow down. So far, with the 335i, I haven't had a chance. And only brief spurts in the E39 528i. The days of us being able to do this in the U.S. are numbered. With the way things are going, our huge government always reaching for more power, more surveillance, less privacy, more control and the public too distracted to notice. It's just a matter of time before the party is over.

To those who think this is no big deal I ask you to think of one thing. Imagine you are "pushing" your car and you don't see the minivan with the family on the road ahead of you. As you lose control trying to avoid it you slam into the van and the next thing you see is A 9 YEAR OLD GIRLS HEAD SMASH OPEN ON YOUR WINDSHIELD!!!
Perhaps "having a little fun" isn't worth the potential price... |

Any idiot can take a car up to 100+ speeds. The point is that you need to recognize what you are risking (both to yourself and to those around you) when you decide to be foolish. I am fully confident in my abilities (and aware of my limitations) behind the wheel. What I am not as confident in is what I do not have control or cognizance of. At 130 mph a blown tire will render your car damn near uncontrollable. How do you know that there isn't a hazard in the road ahead? How do you know that that family isn't making their way home in the minivan? How do you know the car ahead isn't being operated by a drunk who will make a totally unexpected maneuver? In America we do not require NEAR the amount of training and testing that they do in Germany or any other country where they have very high or no speed limits. The autobahn's are there because in order to operate a car on them you are required to go through what amounts to racing school. Here all you need is to have 20/40 vision and the ability to memorize the answers to some very simple questions plus pass an insanely easy driving test. Add to that nobody is required to be recertified once they have passed. I can't tell you how many times I see people driving with two feet (ie braking continuously) or mistaking the gas for the brake. Remember, these are the same folks you are trying to pass at 130. I wouldn't trust them with a potato peeler let alone not doing something stupid when I drive past them. |

Obviously the material fine is not important. However, I hope you do realize that you risked your life and the life of others on the public road. One small bump could have caused your death. We do not have autobahns and the roads are crap, therefore it is simple stupidity to do this considering the uncontrolled environment and shitty roads. Next time when you want to do this go to HPDE and have fun. The cost is the same and you will enjoy driving on smooth surface in a controlled environment. GL and be responsible!! |
