Poll : Miles before tires needed replacement
My tires are showing wear on the inside inch of the rear tires at only 3500 miles. I have the 19 inch stock wheels and tires. I hear this is a big problem with the 335's. Dealer says it is completely normal. They wont mount my car without charging me. How many miles did you get before you had to replace your tires?

The car is brand new only 3700 miles on it. No hard hits or bumps which would lead me to believe it got misaligned somehow. The dealer showed me some tires with 15k on them which were worn down pretty badly. They said it was normal and the price you pay for performance tires and a performance car.

I currently have 27K+ miles on my orig OEM tires, and still going strong...I do plan on replacing them probably another few K's though..

Are you showing wear on the inside of the rear tires though? I notice you have a sedan so maybe those wear better than the coupe/vert. I'm sure my 19" wheels dont help either.

I do show some wear and tear on the rear, but it looks to me as normal pattern...yeh i think your 19s probably don't help...i have mine lowered and spacer'ed out too, hence have more negative camber, resulting more wear on the inside than outside...

The original run-flats lasted about 34K after which I replaced them with run-flat Continentals. I'm up to 61k on the car now and the tires are still in good shape. The BMW tech said they are all at about 3mm and to start thinking about replacing them in a few more months.

27k miles on the OEM RFT RE050's????? omg... I have almost toasted my tires in 11k miles. I'll be lucky to see 13k out of them. I already ordered a set of RE760's to replace the runshits, they are garbage. I expect about 15k miles out of the RE760's... wishful thinking for 20k.

You are probably like me, you drive fairly aggressive and spirited and unless you sacrifice traction for treadwear you aren't going to see the miles that some people get that tend to drive more docile. I'm switching to RE760s to see how much grip I lose vs how much life I gain. I might go back to a non RFT RE050 if I'm not happy with the RE760s. Then again on my last car I had RE01R's. I am a firm believer in not skimping out on tires.

At $350+ each for the rears, it's not that hard to take care of them. When you think about it, if a new set is needed every 10k, it would price the 3 series sport package to be very expensive when cost per mile is factored in. Just divide $4000 by 30,000 and that works out to 13 cents per mile for tires alone.

My rear RFT's dipped below the legal tread depth at around 14k miles... now I have 17k just dragging em out until my new wheels get here.
On the penny scale, the tread measures to the depth of that tiny little lip around the edge of the penny (like .5mm at best) |

Wow, some of you guys are really hit it hard with the tires huh? Yeah, I'm almost at 28K now with orig. OEM RFTs and the tires still look great, and I like said, I plan on driving them another few K's before replacement. I'm up for my 2nd inspection soon, probably in another month or so and I will ask the tech to check for wear and tear and timeline for replacement. More than 50% of my driving are on highway/freeway and the rest on surface street and I don't drive too harsh either...I guess that's how they last longer.

Understand that when you lowered your wheels with aftermarket springs, you tend to get more negative camber, which results in more wear on the inside than outside. Conversely, positive camber will wear on the outside more than inside...somewhere on this thread, there's a post with a diagram explaining the effects of offsets, camber settings, their points of view from the rear, etc...take a look at them before you decide to go with aftermarket accessories. The person who posted that has a screen name of ksfrogman. good luck
