Attention Auto tranny owners over 60K miles
I began slowly leaking tranny fluid right around this mileage. I'm currently at 82K, and the other day, I had my car parked for 3-days straight, when I noticed a small puddle of trans fluid. I did some research on the boards, and its not a matter of if you'll develop this issue, its when. Leaking trans fluid can be scary, as it can lead to lack of gear lubrication, and clutch pack failure. The mechatronic sealing sleeve, and transmission pan gasket, needs to be changed, a long with a full liter of trans fluid for top off. I had the service done today at my local shop, and purchased the parts and fluid online. Get yours done today, weather you see a leak or not!
Car on the lift, waiting for temps to rise Fluid being pumped back in Trans fluid = Liquid Gold! $$ Special thanks to Kfrazie1's very informative thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=trans+leak Last edited by Turkeybaster115; 05-08-2011 at 09:10 AM.. |

I changed mine(pan, sealing adapter, and 6.5 quarts of lifeguard 6) at around 45k miles. It might be a placebo but I felt like it shifted better and was smoother.
I think I am going to do this along with spark plugs, cleaning valves with intake off, power steering fluid, and rear end fluid every 40k miles. |

Mechatronic sealing sleeve replaced at 33k miles. Like OP stated, trans fluid leak noticable when the car hasn't been driven for a few days/weeks. btw, the trans fluid looks like motor oil, not the usual red atf.

Why didnt you just replaced all the fluid ? When i changed the pan 6-7 liters were needed.

I just drain the fluid out and fill in the fluid til the pan can't take anymore. it's about 5 liter~~! It will hurt the trans if you fill too much fluid!

New to the forum. Have a 2006 325i with about 40k miles that i dont drive very often and noticed a puddle of trans fluid on the garage floor under the middle of the car just like many of you. I just want to know TRUTHFULLY how difficult this job is. Mainly because the STEALERSHIP quoted about $700 to replace the pan/filter and the mechatronics sleeve. So again how difficult is this DIY job? Thanks in advance for any replies!
P.S. I have an electrical engineering degree so I'm decent when it comes to fixing things. I've also changed the oil myself on this car if that helps in comparison... |

Had mine done back at 38,000 miles. Had a leaking tranny and rear differential. Everything done under warranty.
