Skyline Drive Outing Saturday Nov 3
Calendar: USA - Mid-Atlantic

09:00 onwards

We've been talking about this outing since maybe last spring , but it never materialized.

I've been meaning to the recommended Fall drive up there to see the foliage eversince I moved here but never got around to it.

So is anyone else interested in joining us? It'll be just a casual drive, take some pictures, soak in that nice clean autumn air, that sort of thing.

I'm also soliciting any recommendations and tips for this outing including routing, lunch places, stops etc. They will be much appreciated.

So far I was thinking of an early morning rendezvous in Fairfax, possibly over breakfast. Also, I was thinking of maybe doing a small picnic and/or bbq as I understand there isn't much up there.

Initial interest list

I looked at the site, I think we should shoot to drive all the way up to Skyland Resort which is the highest point (?).

This is the timeline and distance...

Its about 50 miles from Fairfax to Front Royal, VA

Factor in a couple odd miles to the main entrance.

We go up via the Front Royal entrance.

Its about 41.5 miles to reach skyland resort from the entrance.

Along the way we can schedule 2-3 photography / bathroom /ciggie break spots

At skyland resort they have a restaurant of sorts, I'll post up details soon, food's probably crap but the atmosphere should be awesome.

Maybe spend an hour up there and then reverse route back to VA?

So that's about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach Front Royal entrance, another 2-3 hours (with stops) to reach Skyland and then back...

Its gonna be an all day affair that is why I recommend an early morning rendezvous...

no picnic....there's a restaurant, go up a few posts, the menu is there.

Although a cooler of drinks/NOS and maybe some sandwiches for emergency rations might not be a bad idea.
