Bad Starter and service question!

Just wanted to share:

So my starter died out of the blue this past saturday, BMW sent a tow truck got her in the shop late saturday. My car has 61,XXX miles, it's an 07' e92. The guys at Hendrick BMW, Charlotte NC have always been pretty good! They fixed the battery recall issue without me asking and also getting a fresh oil change.

I'm picking her up today after work. (Damn I missed her! lol)

They also recommended a brake fluid flush and a cabin air filter change.
- Is the cabin air filter whats in the air box or is this something else?
cause it was $100 bucks, I was like Ill get a nice KN drop in filter for half that.
- Also brake fluid flush was like 200 bucks, Is this important?

I opted to skip both of these for the time being.

Thanks in advance!

Cabin filter is under your hood near windshield wipers.. its for air going through a/c or heater into cabin.. also for brake fluid, it is not necessary, but is suggested because brake fluid slowly absorbs water over time changing the chemical makeup... i got mine done but it really isnt necessary i dont think.

Thanks for the response, Can I change that filter myself, or is it worth a 100 bucks? From what it sounds like it's kind of just a HVAC filter in your car?

The non carbon/charcoal filters are $30. The carbon/charcoal filters are $50-60. BMW would replace it with the carbon one. This will keep the incoming air smelling cleaner. I'd say $100 is about right. They would charge .5 hours labor and a small markup on the part.

Is there a big difference between the two? Either way I'm glad I opted out.

Ive used both. The more expensive on does better at blocking out smells. I live in the country and there are skunks everywhere. The more expensive one does much better at blocking the stench of a dead skunk.

The cabin filter is under that huge plastic below your wipers when you open your hood, they are cheap and easy to replace but to pay the dealer to do it is just absurd. The more expensive one was told to me by the dealer that its for the cars that are equipped with automatic climate control. Don't know why?

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years or 15K miles. You never want to compromise your safety since brakes is what stops your car, if you don't change it you'll eventually have brake failure.

DIY Cabin Filter = $30-60
Indy Shop Brake Fluid = $60-80

Thanks for the info Sir! I found a carbon activated one on amazon for 25 bucks. And I'll definitely call around for a brake flush, I just wasn't gonna pay 200 bucks for it.
