Window Tint Percentage Question!

Sorry.. Newbie question here..

My Local BMW Dealership is offering window tint for $99 on ALL rear windows. What % should I get if I just want it to block out the sun light. I do not want the dark menacing look.. I want it to be as light as possible HOWEVER still have the ability to block sunlight out. I will be relocating to the SO CAL HEAT.

Thank you..

If I am not mistaken, any percentage of tint on the front driver and passenger side windows (as well the front windshield) is not legal in CA. However, if stopped by CHP or cops, you may get away with the lighter tints (most of us just roll down the windows as fast as we could before he approaches the car!).

You can do a search for "Tints" or "Tint percentage" in the Photo/ Media or Cosmetic Modification sections of this site and see some examples for yourself. I think anything lighter than 35% works for your needs (the higher the number the lighter. For example, 20% is the starting grade of that "Dark Menacing" look you are trying to avoid).

for CA sun, i'd do at least 20% on the back and 30% front.

i have 30% all around now, and i kinda regret it as I think 20% would be better.. 20% back and 30% front.

20% is not that dark, especially if you have a light color interior and under the sun.

you shouldn't have a problem with cops if it's only your rear windows. 35% would probably be best for you since you want light as possible.

30 to 35% is as dark as you can go as far as being legal in most States. I have 30% and it's perfect for me & not too dark when driving at night...

"ALL rear windows," will look terrible, because the driver and passenger side windows will not be tinted (CA legal). If you must tint and, "just want it to block out the sun light," go 45% all around. It will diminish the rays, be light enough to significantly lessen your probability of being ticketed, and won't look, "menacing."
