Solved: ABS/DSC lights

My car has now started showing the ABS DSC lights with codes for the Hydro pump issue.

It seems I have to get my ABS module repaired..

However, is it possible to do a straight swap of the pump with a 2010 model 325i e90?

My car is 2007 325i e92..

( I can change the control module to avoid the coding..)

I had my ABS light come on recently. I had it plugged into diagnostics and found it was simply the front right ABS steering wheel sensor. £50 from ECP and £40 labour max at decent garage.

The hydro pumps will be much more costly and to replace that you're looking at about £1800 all in..

My diagnostics does show 5DF0 and 5DF1 errors..
Changed my battery, and still the lights pop up intermittently..

It is a big expense to get it changed from BMW..

So looking for cheaper options..

check out my thread:

I had same issue. Had the pump out in 15 mins and shipped off to ECUtesting. Fitted back relatively easily. Hardest part was bleeding the brakes after (managed to do without removing wheels together with using DIS to cycle ABS pump and a pressure bleeder removing bubbles)

http://www.ecutesting.com/ - Quick turnaround, SMS Updates and IIRC lifetime warranty. Been golden ever since , although I have BMW warranty now.

Great thanks!

I dont mind getting the pump off and shipping it over..

But I have never bled the brakes before..
I have a freind who can do it, but he has no diagnstics experience with BMWs..

Can you point me to some info where I can cycle the ABS using INPA?

Thanks again for your help guys!

Yes it was my first time also, although I had bled brakes on older cars before. I used a gunson easy-bleed device (£20 from halfords) connected up to the brake fluid expansion tank to create the pressure. This got most of the air out of the system.
Next a service plan in DIS allows you to actuate the ABS pump - purging the air out. The software goes through a step-by-step procedure of asking you to open and close the bleed-nipples on each caliper. I repeated this twice for good measure. It was a while ago now, but pretty sure I had someone applying pressure to the brake pedal also.

Maybe someone else can comment but I am not sure you can perform this from inside INPA. If not, DIS can be run from inside a virtual machine with fairly minimal effort now. You might even be able to do it without the software, or just simply toggle the ABS pump from INPA... and start bleeding from the furthest caliper from the pump..

5DF0 and 5DF1 is common means hydro connector and hydro internal we are seeing more and more of these now, BMW's route is painful if you have a competent garage get it off and sent away to ECU Testing we send a fair few away to them they are good downside is the back log currently for one of mine 13 days and counting, but the end result is a working pump far far cheaper than the BMW alternative, the best thing is once the pumps returned it can be fitted, bleed of course without coding as it was your pump in the first place

Is that a 4-cylinder or a 6-cylinder version?

The price for mine (6 cylinder) is 950 quid odd.. as BMW does not have a repair kit.. its a replacement.

Just to update,

I replaced my DSC unit with one from a 2010 325i.

I programmed the module to my car, and calibrated the sensors..

All is working fine, except for one thing..

I am getting a 5E34 error, for the longitudinal sensor calibration, which makes my Hill assist inactive..

ISTA fails when it tries to calibrate this.

Any idea how to get around it?

So, Updating my experience with replacing my DSC unit..

My car was showing up the three dreaded lights..
Sure enuf, it was the DSC hydroPump gone bad..

So instead of sending my DSC unit for reconditioning, I searched on ebay for a working unit from a newer car..
I got lucky and ordered one for under 100 quid..
Make sure you get one as close to your model as possible..
And 6-cylinder ones need 6-cylinder ones!

So, I just did a straight swap for my car, reprogrammed the module to my car, and bled the brakes..
However, it seems the newer module had a faulty longitudinal sensor, which ISTA-D could not recalibrate. (5E34)
This affects the Start assist feature standard on 6-cylinder models.

So, I took out the unit, and swapped my original module to the newer one.
Its a very easy swap, 4 T-20 screws and it slides out..

Reassembled, refitted, and recoded . (It has to be recoded for the Steering angle calibration to happen. recode to your VO using WinKfp. Even if it is from your car.)
Recalibrate the unit again using ISTA-D.
I bled the brakes using INPA to get my brakes strong, rather than swishy.

All done, and now happy camper!
All in expenses : 90 for unit, and 20 for brake fluid, and a lot of elbow grease!

Nice! Thant's a good price for the module. When mine failed I couldn't find one for less than £250ish.

Glad you got it sorted.
