DIY: Installing new LCI Led Tail Lights on a e93

Hi all,

Today I am bringing you my last DIY guide.
I installed a friend the new LCI Tail Lights for his BMW e93 (also valid for e92 but with different references)

I installed them without changing the FRM module for the new one because it is not necessary

The steps are easy:

1º: Install the new lights (plug&play with the retrofit wiring kit)
2º: Recode the FRM module telling it that you have now LCI lights

Enjoy!

Hi. I was wondering what source you used to find out which items needed to be coded, for the LCI Taillights to function correctly without errors. If you could point me in the right direction. I have the LCI taillights installed and I tried to code some things, but I am still getting flickering problems with my signal lights when I start the car.

Hi,

It is so easy. You only have to identify which bulb is flickering. Then, you have to disable the the bulb check which is wrong.

You have 2 types of checks, cold and warm.
At the FRM, they are noted as KALTUEBERWACHUNG_xxx and WARMUEBERWACHUNG_xxx.

There are 2 ways for identifying which bulb is wrong:
1.- You can see at the tail light which one is flickering now (remember that now you have changed to LED the Brake, Turn and BFD lights)

2.- The best way is doing a 'Check' trought the Board Computer (using the blinker lever) and then, hold the BC button and your dash will tell you a CC-ID-XXXX error code. This code is matched with a bulb which is wrong.

Regards.

First of all, if your car is newer than 03/07 (obviously it is because you have a FRM1) I personally wouldn't change the FRM module. Better I would install only the tail lights and make a custom coding for get them working properly.
Also it is the cheap way.

Even if you install a FRM3 you will have problems with dealer coding because your car is not supposed to install that module.

Regards.

Nope, you dont lose any function! (Only the bulb checks obviously...)

Read the 'Coding' forum and lean how to. Basically you need a DCAN interface and the BMW Standard Tools.

Hello guys, installed my LCI lamps, looks great, but just got into a little problem since my passenger side wont light up the bars other the turn signals, stop light and reverse, with the retofill harness, my friend who find out, that my bimmer had already reach the max 60ea counter electric strikes problems with the lamps, I didn’t know about that, not even a glue that BMW have this so of warning set up to prevent failed to module. Now meant time I resolve this problem I have run a wire from the driver side to the passenger to make it work the inner and the outer is just temporarily.
So what we have on mid is reset the module back to cero counters, that way and hopefully goes back to normal and lamp will lights up the way it supposed to, all thought we don’t know for sure is by resetting the module will cause any other problem.
Any help will be appreciated

Hi! I was doing this to change my signals to chrome bulbs and lost the so called "plug-in nut". Dealer can't find the part number. Does anyone know where/how to get one of these? Can't put the cover back on without one! :-(

Thanks~

sorry may be a stupid question, but since we're disabling the bulb check, we longer can tell if a bulb goes out (via notification on dash) in the new taillights (eventually at some point)?

You are right... neither a original LCI car nor the retrofitted one can warn about a LED blown bulb so do not worry about that.

adapter harness

Hi everyone, I had a look at the forum and couldn't find the part number for the harness I need to install the LCI lights on pre lci e93. I read a post claiming that I need to re wire the plug in mirror to make it work on both side. Is that true?

Would anyone know the part number for the harness and could kindly share?

I'm not sure if it helps but its UK spec vehicle and I purchased a Euro spec rear lights.

Thank you for the help.

Thank you for the help.
If you had watched the video, you would have seen the part number since all them are shown in it.

Also, I have done it many times and I have not mentioned any mirror rewiring, so don't pay attention to any other fake information.

Just install your new tail lights with the four wiring harnesses and recode the FRM.
