DIY: Custom Start button
Step 1: Take off the Aluminum-colored trim (it clips off with a little force)
Step 2: Remove Start/Stop button cover. If you can see closely there's 4 clips you have to delicately take off in order to remove it As the picture says, when doing this, remember that the represented/circled tab is the top part. This pic is a test of function to show you what and where the LED is This is a pic of the Start/Stop button with the white plastic layer. As you can see it's very dull. This is a pic of the Start/Stop button without the white plastic layer. As you can see MUCH brighter Step 3: Shave down the Start/Stop button cover. I wet sanded with 600 grit to make sure i had a nice even tone. Step 4: Apply your vinyl. You may or may not use a heat gun depending on the type of vinyl. It makes things easier to stretch if you do. As i mentioned in the beginning of the DIY, this is a 3-piece vinyl: Rebuild your button! (As you can see here, i also applied a vinyl to my aluminum portion) Step 5: Reinsert your custom button on your dash and you're done! |

Swwet DIY! Do you mind adding how you take out the whole push to start unit out of the dash trim?

As per the subtitle of this DIY, it assumes you are able and have already taken off your start button. If you want guidance/pictures of that tutorial, please search for additional DIY on removing/replacing interior trim.
A quick run-down on the procedure: Start by prying the top left corner of your trim (next to the start button) and pull. Gradually wiggle out the pieces but not too hard or you may break or bend your trim. You don't need to pull the trim all the way off but if you do, make sure you unplug all necessary items like your AC vent and your start button. Next, unplug the electricals from the start button... you should feel two pressure clips on the sides - squeeze these and pull the cable towards the dash. Next, you may need pliers or something that can squeeze two more pressure clips (something can can reach 1" width easily). These clips will be behind the trim attached to the start button directly on the left and right (see picture #7). Squeeze these and pull the button towards you... You should now have your start button out. |

thank you for the comments! i had his vinyl custom made at a local sign shop... cost me ~$5 for 4 vinyls in different sizes since they already had the material in storage. Check with ur local shop to get a quote on prices; i recommend measuring out the size of the button to give them a rough idea of how you will overlay or have them take a first-hand look at the mod and go from there.

You don't by chance have the specs/dimensions that you used for this vinyl?
In case anyone needs a similar jpg.
