What are my options to increase fuel rail pressure?
So over the past couple months I spent my time replacing oil pan gasket, while doing so I also changed out my rod bearings and installed RB Stage One turbos and Fuel-it stage 2 lpfp. I have also installed a new hpfp. I'm just in the process of finishing up my custom ethanol tune. We started at E30, then was able to bump it up to E35, and now tried out E40. My rail pressure has given out on e40. Just looking for feedback as to what options I have to run the e40 tune safely. I'm not looking to increase my ethanol content any further then e40. A few options I looked into are:
1) cheapest option-remove the hpfp filter and drill out fuel line(they claim a 300-400psi increase), what are your thoughts on removing the filter? This isn't my daily driven car, just a weekend driver. 2)helix overdrive-but Ive heard it can crack the brake booster housing bc of the extra weight and vibration 3) port injection 4)should I have went with a stage 3 lpfp? Would that have helped?

Helix overdrive now includes a bracket so that it will not crack the brake booster.
Port injection is probably your other best choice I dont think you’d need a stage3 lpfp if youre planning to just run E40. However i also dont think the lpfp is the issue if the hpfp isnt able to keep up

Wow does that tank fast.
If you want the cheapest option I would remove the filter and drill, but add a 10micron filter in-line someplace. The best option (IMO) is port injection but it could cost you to get setup. My setup is overkill but I have a Walbro 535 and 450 on a hobbs switch going to port injection and Bosch 550cc. My HPFP usually sits around 2700psi on WOT.

I recently went with the BMP Port Injection kit, at the time I ordered they were out of the plate style injector holder and were selling entire intake manifolds with injectors.
Went with that for marginally more money and it worked out really well. I lose the 'stealth' factor under the hood but that's not a big deal to me and really there's a lot of other cues under the hood to show it isn't stock now anyways. Had to cut up the engine cover a bit as well to make room for the intake / injectors but it all works good. |

Try a new HPFP........a healthy stock HPFP should be able to keep up with e40 and stage 1 turbos as long as the LPFP is supplying enough fuel...and it being a stage 2, it should.
I'm running an E50 tune with stock turbos and a stage 2 LPFP hitting 20psi....and I have no fueling issues at all. I could be wrong....but I don't think the stage 1 turbos are a huge bump up from stock....but maybe I'm wrong. |

I have installed a new HPFP. As well RB's Stage Ones are a decent upgrade from stock. I am extremely pleased with them. Even my tuner was surprised how well they do for only stage 1's.

So just to follow up with what I have done, as it is good information for anyone looking to get an extra 4-500psi of rail pressure added on stock setup, I ended up drilling out my fuel line with an 11/64"drill, and removed the hpfp filter. I ran the same tune and I gained over 400psi. This is a cheap mod to get a bit extra fuel if your at your limits and need just a bit more.

Been running the same setup for over 2 years. All is good, no side effects.
