BOV, negative performance impact?

I have been wanting to pick up a charge pipe and BOV primarily because I am questing if my stock DV's are holding the boost my car is making on Map 2 w/ my JB4. When they vent they sound really "fluttery" for lack of a better description and my JB4 integrated boost on fuel is all over the place.

Anyway.. I was reading through the Procede website FAQ's and noticed the comment about BOV's, as follows;

"Q: I am very interested on installing a BOV (Blow-off Valve), is that going to be a problem?

A: It is best for one to resist the temptation of installing an aftermarket BOV as our cars were not designed to release excess boost pressure into the atmosphere. Doing so will effect the PROcede’s tuning and cause the car to run poorly. The car was designed to recirculate that excess air back into the intake system. Bleeding off the air that was accounted for by the MAF sensor will confuse everything."

With the majority of full bolted on people here running BOV setups that are not recirculated, I was wondering if any can actually quantify this?

I am definitely swapping my BOV's out, but now I am wondering if I should just get some Forge's and recirculate them.

Any insight appreciated.

We dont have a MAF sensor. Who ever wrote that needs to reassess their statement. You will be fine.

Straight off Vishnu's website.

Excellent then, BOV it is. Thanks for your reply.

Maybe they were talking about the N55. No problem.

Vishnu also told me a few days ago that the Procede does account for recirculation.

I dont believe that the recirculation is much to worry about with respect to what we perceive when we drive. I do think that the surge of air during shifts do help to keep the turbine spooled, but is probably only most effective when tracking, or serious time-trial driving.

Ultimate performance = DV's
Compromise = BOV

Just my opinion.

I'm pretty happy with my Forge DVs. I don't care much for the BOV sound, especially with the unwanted attention it might bring (car is loud enough as is). I've also heard that the Procede accounts for recirculation.

I would say Forge.. recirculation is the OE setup...unless u really want that BOV sound..i would rather every bit of air dumped back into the intake rather than vented..its a minscule amt but every bit helps

You would rather hot air be recirculated? What would that little bit help with? The turbo's are not starved of air as is.

And the performance advantages of BOVs are what exactly?

I didn't say there was a performance advantage. I was just correcting you. Unless you want to know the minuscule advantages such as not recirculating hot air and blow by.

well my point is if its a choice between the OEM setup or a non OEM setup..i would pick the OEM (DVs)..especially if there are no performance advantages w the BOV..plus i find the sound annoying..but i understand there are some that like it

The Purpose of the Blow Off Valve is help eliminate "Kompressor Surge" which is pressurized air that is recirculating back to the turbos and depreciating the life of the Kompressors Units. The Factory diverter valves are designed for the "standard boost pressure" to help recirculate the vented air and reduce the sound of the pressurized air that is released. Hopefully this information will be helpful to the OP and those who needed clarification.

The little bit of hot air being recirculated is not going to keep the turbo spooling. Exhaust gas is what powers the turbo, not intake charge.

My mistake. I just took another look at the recirculation diagram. I thought the recirculated air was pumped back into the intake tract a little closer to the impeller.

Either way, shoving a bit more air back into the intake cant hurt either. Not to say that would prevent me from getting one. I'm still considering options myself.
