Superchips Remap - any good?

I'm looking at a 335d on Sunday, it's a nice spec'd car but its got a Superchips remap on it.

It is claiming 355bhp and 680nm. The owner says that it was a little too aggressive when he got it done and asked them to dial it down a little...

Has anyone got experience of one or heard anything, good or bad?

I have a bluefin, superchips are always a little conservative on the maps, I would think more 330 rather than 355. I find mine nice and progressive returns good mpg too. I wouldn't let the fact it's got sc map on it put you off. Just make sure you get the controller and if you're lucky enough to have an 07 reg or later, the controller has a built in logging too as well as diagnostic capabilities.

It's an 08 but I don't think it has the controller, he never mentioned it anyway. He did say it's more economical as a result and getting 450 from a tank now instead of 400.

Can you get a controller after the fact or does it need to be at the time of the remap?

I quite like the idea of it having a remap, but I want to get the BMW warranty and I'm concerned that it will interfere with it or the next time it goes in for a service...am I being overly cautious about it?

The controller is married to the car. Sc will make you buy a new one so I'd make sure it's there. As far as bmw warranty goes, if it hasn't already got it and you are buying private then if bmw actually sell you a warranty, then man.. That's gonna be expensive and having a sc map on it may push the price up even more. Just so you know. If it does go to bmw for a service and they flash your ecu to update the calibration file then your sc map disappears, so again.. You need the controller. This applies to the new obd fix they recently offered too

Good intel there.

Only relative if the original map was applied by Bluefin however (user handheld pendant)

Superchips can and do apply maps at garages too, this might be one of those cases.
So no pendant to reapply/remove the map was ever supplied.

355BHP is the quoted output for this lump, the Bluefin option is the same price as having a dealer do it

Superchips remaps are based on some very good files.

I'd think that it's a good remap for sure: But 355 is very optimistic.

I'd fully expect 346bhp on another dyno

Ok cheers for the info. Went to see the car today and to cut a long story short, I ended up agreeing to a sale.

It has the bluefin controller so no worries there now. I'll post more details in a while, got to to out and see some old friends for now.

Just had a thought - this car hasn't had the obd update from BMW yet, if I get it done, will this stop the bluefin working?

Well done. You will love it.

I have the Bluefin map on mine, and had it RR'd a few months ago. Made nowhere near 355 BHP. Made 320 BHP.

Little disappointed, but not going to worry about it.

Couldn't tell you what difference it made to fuel economy as I only had the car 3 days before mapping it, but if I use Shell diesel I can easily see 500 miles before having to refill, usually only 470-480 on Asda / Tesco diesel though.

I would go for a different remap if I could do it again, but I aint willing to spend more money on mapping when it is already mapped.

Getting an update from BMW shouldn't stop your map from working. But you may need to re-apply your map after.

my butt dyno reckons the same.
But as my dpf is in a bit of a mess I'm off to ecotune next week for a pipe. They are going to roll the car before and after so will be interested to see what it does actually do.

They flash the ECU and that wipes the map, so if you take it in, make sure you have put the area back to standard because if you leave it in performance mode and it gets wiped you will have a fight on your hands with sc because the controller is not registered to you (and they hate that) and you do not have the performance map in the controller..so basically you have nothing to go back to them with if stuff goes wrong

So by putting it back to standard, the performance map is copied back into the bluefin?

I was just wondering if the OBD fix affects the bluefin communications with the ecu...

No it doesn't effect it , you should always have the ignition on when using the BF

Had mine rollered today prior to dpf delete, the bluefin made 326, so my butt dyno estimate was nearly bang on the money.

Whaaat?! Holy moly...but I take it that your bluefin is no longer any use...? If you don't mind me asking, how much was the ecotune? PM if you like.

Prices are on their website, it's no secret. Around £800 for the removal, new pipe and remap.

You are correct, bluefin map is back on controller

Ecotune, if you want to take it to them direct is just shy of 1k, including. Dpf replacement pipe, controller, 3 maps (2tune & original) all fitted with before and after roller session and any necessary tweaks to the maps to get them performing right..

Yeah, that's ballpark price fairly competetive! BWchiptune will do the same service for circa 600 but the map isn't switchable. You're paying quite a bit of wedge for the switch, they do sell switch units but it adds over 200 to the price!!!

378bhp!! Sounds nice. I like (as Borat would say).

Mine's running unmapped at the mo. Even going from 346 back to 286 feels just terrible. Can't wait to have it reremapped

So presumably the switch keeps the map hidden from BMW?

The 378 comes at a price.. The constant hideous smell of a stagecoach bus, plus the sight of white blue smoke 1st thing in the morning. I thought it was oil at first and had a horrible sinking feeling but it's just unburnt diesel. There is a less aggressive map at 336 bhp which doesn't create smoke.... But to be fair one you've had a bite at the apple and like it, not much fun in going back!
