Sadly, my first visible scratch

My mother scratched it with a snow shovel while shoveling the driveway. Lesson: never let the mom shovel snow near your E90! This has already ruined my day. It does not appear to be a deep scratch, but I have a saph black, so it is very visible. Is there a easy fix to this? I will I have to just live with it? What do you all do when someone scratches your door? Thereis no dent, just a white scratch mark.

You can try GS27 scratch remover.

http://www.gs-27.com/?source=gg&camp...FQpZPgodCh3gGw

It works well some times.

Good Luck

Clay doesn't remove scrathes, nor will it help that.

I had a similar scratch on my e36 and managed to round the edges of the scratch enough so that it is no longer noticeable in 99% of lighting. And when it is visible, only I notice it. I did it with a PC though, not by hand.

A PC with a good polish might get it out. If you run your finger over it can you feel it?? If no it will come out.

That will come out. Get some good compound - not too aggressive and work on it with a soft cloth.

Then graduate to a less abrasive polish, then a pure polish and then a coat of wax. It will come out.

What is a "PC"? when i run my finger over it, I don't feel a thing, its just more like a surface mark. like someone ran a white marker over it.

A PC is a Porter Cable 7424 machine polisher.

For more information on how to use a PC (as well as other answers) see the Detailing 101 sticky thread at the top of this forum.

Sorry about your scratch. I have a scratch right below the gas fill door and a couple of scuff marks on the lower panel below the driver's door too. I used a rubbing compound on the scuffs and fu*ked my paint , so I am afraid to use a rubbing compound now.

People on bimmerfest.com recommended Meguiar's Scratch X, so I'm going to try that on the scratch.

If your nail doesn't 'catch' on the scratch, a good detailer should be able to work it out of the clear coat.

Why didn't you shovel the snow for your mother?

The lesson is shovel the snow for your mother.

There is a BIG difference between a mark on the paint and a scratch. If you run your finger over it and it still feels smooth, then odds are you can get it out yourself in 15 minutes.

The best option would be to use a buffer, such as a Porter Cable. Try a light abrasive polish first to see if it removes the mark. Use a "cutting pad" with the polish and tilt the buffer so the edge of the pad is in contact with your car -- in other words, don't sit the pad flat on your car. Move it around the scratch/mark for a couple of minutes while applying slight pressure. Let the buffer do the work. If the light abrasive polish doesn't work, use a more abrasive polish with the same techinique described above. As mentioned in this thread, always finish with a light abrasive polish, and then wax.

I have had great success with Griot's and Menzerna products. For Griots, they have Machine Polish 1,2, and 3. Lately though, Menzerna has been giving much better results. Intensive Polish is a more abrasive polish, and Final Polish II is a less abrasive polish. detailedimage.com carries both & have good prices.

Good luck!
