It's JUST trim and it can always be changed!

and IMO, I wouldnt mind an aluminum trim or burl trimmed coffin, its not like you are gonna notice it that often, what do you want in yours....velvet on grey poplar?

Saddle with high-gloss black or Paino Black Trim, looks very good.

A correction to my earlier post (after looking at the picture combos, frantically realizing i dont really like the saddel/walnut and calling my CA to change to light poplar): It is the saddle/poplar that my CA recommended (not burl walnut) and fortunately that is what i had on my order.

Yeah that saddle/alum looks tight in the coupe, but I agree the gray poplar is by far the best with the saddle. No offense to the Saddle/alum Sedan owners, but I think it looks far better in the coupe than in the sedan, unless the sedan is AW or Titanium, or one of the other light colors.

Don't like alum at all. With that said, saddle/gray poplar looks awesome!!

it's your car so do whatever you want with it.

if you want my 2 cents, i just think that saddle is too classy a colour to go with the all out sporty look of the alum.

they somehow clash together in a strange way that i am not fond of. For a sedan, i would go all out for the luxury side and get saddle/burl wood, for the semi sporty side, i would definitely go with saddle/gray poplar.

like other said, the high gloss black trim is a nice and tasty combo too~!

i can only imagine the alum trim being in white/black or black/black car, something that is all out sporty, then yea, the alum might be appropriate~

I thought Terra was offered on the Sedan, Saddle on the Coupe....

Anyways... Saddle reminds me of Ferrari's tan/brown interior. I think saddle/alum looks fantastic, a nice mix of luxury and sport. Then again I'm biased... Wood trim makes me feel "older"

<-- Saddle/Alum owner.

IMO saddle and aluminum are both garbage.

First of all, it's a BMW, not a horse.

Second, aluminum comes standard on every shitbox car that Mazda and Scion sells, why would you put that crap in a BMW.

The Gray Poplar is the only one worth a damn... somebody mentioned a coffin earlier, and that's exactly what the brown wood looks like...

But I'm just sayin...

As someone said before, saddle and alum gives the car a sporty look. This is especially true with the darker body colors. I don't like the fact that the alum is probably cheaper to produce and you don't get a credit to reflect the lower cost. I also don't like the fact that the alum gets marked up if you look at it funny. But, the fact is, I have a sedan and a coupe (both with alum trim) and I wouldn't do it differently.

Correction, they come with silver trim (painted plastic), this is real aluminum in this car. Not only that, a lot of these "shit boxes" even come with faux wood. Your statement is incorrect and irrelevant.

although i wouldn't use such extremely attitude to comment on the alum trim, i do agree on a few of his points.

whether it's damn plastic with alum coat or real alum, it doesn't matter; to me, they give the same look and feeling so that's why they don't make the bmw feel as luxury as it should be.

again, your point about faux wood is also valid, but you can feel and see the difference between fake plastic wood and the real wood trim use on the bmw. the cheap one is just a plastic cover decoration and not a real solid block like the bmw. the faux wood looks like a stick-on mod.

my 350z has those plastic alum trim and they look and feel very similar to the alum trim on the bmw. i suppose everyone knows, the 350z doesn't have a good interior~

Interesting points. I'll play devil's advocate. A lot of the poeple with our cars tend to think of them as more sport than luxury. I like to believe that i'm too young to be driving a luxury car. I will say that you can find aluminum on some serious sports cars (ferrari comes to mind). There are definitely crap cars out there that use the faux wood.

My only wood bmw experience comes from the e39 I inherited. It was ridiculously cheap. Maybe the outside was a wood layer 1cm thick but the back of it was clearly plastic. It sounded like plastic to the touch. Changed with temperature to the touch. That experience kind of ruined it for me. The only car i've ever been in that seemed to have serious wood was the current gen RL which literally has a slab of wood on the dash.

There's a really good thread about wood vs. aluminum somewhere on this site. Someone should really find it.

The only thing that's incorrect and irrelevant here are your conclusory statements. I don't give a flyin rats ass if the aluminum in the BMW is real or fake, just like in the shitboxes... it all looks like crap. 335xi, Toyota Matrix, or the newest Honda CRV...

Whoa... time to cool off I guess... I just get tired of everyone saying "looks great" to everything posted here... NO, it doesn't look great... and while we're at it, that Red interior looks awful too. What are you, some sort of Italian pimp?

Although in all honesty, the saddle/alum combo further up the page does look fine. Just would never do it myself.

I got the saddle and wanted the aluminum in my car but after seeing it in daylight, I decided to get the gray poplar. I swapped the dark burl out of my 540i for the M5 titanium trim and love it. But the brush strokes on the 3 series aluminum trim look too coarse and the tone is too bright imo. After ordering my car, I stopped in the dealer and looked at a Montego/saddle/aluminum coupe. The color combo looked beautiful in the showroom. But when the car is outside, the montego is a bit too loud for me. If you like the Montego, I think you'll love it with the saddle/aluminum.

March 10 ED. Waiting for redelivery.
