Brake Dust !!

Alright, My first BMW car ever- 2006 330i and I love it but there must be an inherent problem with excess brake dust on these cars. I used to see nice BMW cars driving around and would scoff at the owner for having such a nice vehicle and never clean his wheels. Well now I know that these darn things get pretty darn dirty in only three days of normal driving.
Is there a specific cover I can install behind the alloys to protect them from the dust or just keep cleaning them every 3 days?

There are some very good aftermarket low-dust or no-dust pads on the market that you can replace with to resolve the issue.

use poorboys wheel sealant. once you apply it all you have to do is just rinse with soap and water and wipe off. no need to use heavy brushes or harsh chemicals. the drake dust has been an issue for many years because they are high performance brakes. but if you do replace them with low dust pads the theyre usually lower performing so it will reduce braking power.

Yep, totally agre with twinturboa51, once ya wax the wheels you will see a major difference if you wish to keep the OEM pads.

+1 for the wax. I use wheelwax and 3 days of brake dust takes a few minutes to clean because of the wax.

Don't buy anything which would hamper brake cooling. Brake dust is a trade off for having great brakes. You have to give up something when going to low dust pads and that something might be brake performance (marginal loss). One technique I recommend is to anticipate when you're going to have to brake. Going from 20-0 mph requires less work vs 40-0 mph. If you have a 6spd use engine braking more often, if you have an A/T try coasting more. Not only will you create less dust, but you'll probably experience a slight bump in mpg's.

go fast cars require stop fast brakes
braking requires friction which = wear giving you the final product [brake dust]

any brake component that gives you a lower dusting effect will probably give you lower braking efficiency too. we can complain about a lot of stuff with these cars -- but you cant beat the brakes -- bar none for a commercially produced car used on the highway.. the owners that you saw with filthy wheel may not had a appreciation for the car / or had little or no time to clean them properly.

also a side note: anyone how puts then anti dust protector on the discs are asking for a serious issue when they are pulling the car down from warp speed. lack of proper ventilation may not have a severe effect if your are driving a 1973 chevy vega, or ford pinto - but the BMW brakes are designed to have adequate air flow -- since most discs are no longer sandwiched with ventilators in between its really vital to keep the discs cool as possible
