fkin bs, why don't they put pressure on the worlds worst polluters i.e. usa to reduce theirs rather than making it an excuse to extort more money from the working law abiding population, we need to take a stand like the French do and make them listen

This will happen in our lifetime to some extent. I'd say within 10-15 years.
By 2012 the UK's major retailers - Tesco, Sainsbury, M&S etc expect to be 'carbon neutral'. Everything you buy in their stores will have an embodied CO2 value and loyalty programmes (nectar, clubcard etc) will enable your personal carbon footprint to be tracked. There is a HUGE amount of money to be made from the carbon economy and because of that it's inevitable that it will become a large part of our daily lives. Personal carbon footprinting is a logical extension of that. |

How about everyone hold their breath for six minutes each hour? That's a savings of 1/10th of personal carbon dioxide exhaust right there.
Don't mow your lawn so short. You'd think grass twice the length would put out twice the O2.

Ah, yes. Expert -- 'ex' meaning 'has been'; 'spurt' meaning 'drip under pressure'.

"But Mr Benn said there were problems with the plan: "It's got potential but, in essence, it's ahead of its time, the cost of implementing it would be quite high, and there are a lot of practical problems to overcome." Mr Benn said that the report found the cost of introducing the scheme would be between £700 million and £2 billion, and would cost £1bn-£2bn a year to run. There would also be difficulties in deciding how to set the rations, taking into account a person's age, location and health. " Ummmm........

Oh and the car taxation changes which reward people who save 60kg of carbon a year by buying a lower emission car with a £120 reduction in tax for a carbon saving worth 51p. Explains why even Greenpeace are saying that retrospective VED banding is a mistake because it won't change behaviour: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/media/p...peace-response |

£1-2bn a year to run!!!!
You have GOT to be fickin kidding me? I think it's about time we had a full public audit on all these hair brained schemes and Quango's so we can all see just exactly who's pockets we're blood lining! If it's anything like the NHS IT contract or the ID card scheme I can gaurantee someone somewhere is getting very rich out of all this sh!t

On a slight tangent, how many trees do I have to plant in my back garden to equal a trip to the supermarket?

A mature tree absorbs 7.5 kg of CO2 per year whilst a young actively growing tree absorbs 13+ kg of CO2 per year. A manual 330d emits 160g/km So a single sapling it will offset 80km or 50miles per year. If your round trip to the supermarket is less than 1 mile and you shop once a week. A single tree will do it Go on ... ask me another. |

Ok. Here's another. Quote: Methane is a greenhouse gas that is approximately twenty-three times more powerful per unit at trapping heat than carbon dioxide. Unquote: So. How many tree's does it take to offset the emissions from one cow per year? |

A typical cow emits 110kg of methane a year which equates to 2530kg of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent). You would need 195 actively growing trees to remove that much CO2. Interestingly the emissions from a 330d over 10,000 miles are 2574kg. So the car is only slightly worse than a cow, although to the best of my knowledge you don't need to pay an excise license for a cow or fuel duty on grass. |

Ok then here goes:
If one standard cow was used to create 1/4 pound burgers Which would create more gas the cow or the humans that consumed said burgers over the period of a week? The others were a little easy |
