Winter 335is?

What do you guys think, should i drive my 2011 335is convertible in the winter? Its sitting on stock height and stock 18" rims.

Should i winter it and buy good winter wheels? Or buy some beater?

Live in Mississauga btw

I drive mine. However I bought 18 inch 225 blizzaks and ASA rims. I run 19s in The summer. 17 inch snows look brutal.

I disagree with this lol...

I run M5 rep 17's in the winter on my E93 and they actually look pretty good.

OP, I would t be too concerned if you do have a good set of wheels for winter. Our weather here will likely continue to get hotter considering our winters now are mild at best. I wouldn't worry too much.

theres something to be said when driving your e92 in a snow storm with ski rack and skis on top... can you do that with a convertable...?? just dont hit the open button LOL

You will have no issues driving in the winter at all, just get some winter tires and you're good to go.

You bought the car to enjoy it.

Had no issues driving with good winter tires (I have Blizzaks on M reps). And that's with 400 lbs/ft torque at the wheels.

Getting a beater is always an option but if 2012 is the last year we're all alive, would you want to have died not enjoying every minute of the e93?

Yep. Just barely but it does. 17" ASA are a popular winter choice

+1. Picked up a set of barely used BMW 17" rims and winters for $1,000 and am good to go. Remember that you will need spacers if the rims are narrower than stock, otherwise the winters will look lost. My biggest concern re winter driving is the front lip hitting frozen snow left by snow ploughs - fingers crossed for a mild winter!

My front lip hits all road debris even in the summer so winter isn't fun. Luckily this past winter wasn't too bad so my lip survived.

Whenever there's more then 2-3 inches on the ground your front lip will act like a snowplow though, just re-paint it in summer

What's the recommended BMW set-up for winter? I believe it's 225/40-R18 square set-up, correct?

If I want to run this square set-up, how do I ensure I have the same look/feel/handling/ride/etc. as my staggered 225/40-R18 Front, 255/35-R18 Rear set-up (on style 193M rims 8x18 front; 8.5x18 rear)? If the offsets of the square set-up rims are different then my current rims (think right now with 193M's i'm 34 front offset and 37 rear offset) , then i'm off anyways right? Or do I just need spacers for the rears, or does it matter really?

New to the whole "wheel/tire world". Sorry! Help a newbie out!

Id say the main concern here should be the salt that gets put on the road. Causes stone chips, rust, messes up the paint, ruins the interior carpet and so on....

Frigid weather can crack your trims inside (happend to my 540)

If the budget permits, store your car, drive a beater, and laugh in the spring when your car looks brand spanking new
