just wanted a bit of advice, my e90 seems to be making a juddering noise when setting off in first gear and in 2nd gear if the revs drop a bit low

its more of a juddering noise rather than actually feeling the car judder

could it be something to do with the clutch?

if so would bmw cover it in their 12 month MOT thing they offer-

i only have till end of december till my one year auc warranty finishes

any help appreciated

All diesels with the 2 litre engine and a manual 'box are shite, BMW know about as they have had issues now for 5 years since mid 2006.

Mine is in at the moment to have the clutch and flywheel, amongst other things, replaced to sort it out.
It is now on the 2nd day with them and they still need it till tomorrow so fingers crossed.


I have got a 118i manual to as a loan car and that is an absolute joy to drive in comparison.

I will be selling mine if it comes back and is still so heavy, I am hoping the issue with the old clutch is also what makes it such hard work.

mines a 318i matey, really enjoy driving it especially love how quiet the engine is

any ideas of what could be causing the juddering noise in a petrol?

Mine's also been making a similar noise for the past few weeks. There's no clutch slip or judder and the car changes gear normally (no sticking) - I've been told it's the clutch baring and that the whole clutch will need to be replaced. I'm going to be selling up soon - so not sure if I should repair it or make potential buyers aware of it and knock the cost off (been quoted £450 by indy BMW specialist)

I noticed in another thread you mentioned having your CDV removed made the clutch lighter. Is it still too heavy?

I had mine done recently and it made the clutch lighter and made 1st to 2nd gear changes much smoother. I never really had a problem with the heavy clutch before but it's certainly an improvement.

It's not only the diesels that suffer from judder, I was working with a guy who recently sold a 320i that suffered from it for the whole 3 years of ownership. He said it was the reason he didn't buy another BMW.

It was a lot better, it made it feel lighter than previously but after getting in this 118i it made me realise just how heavy it still is.
I had been regretting buying a manual from the day I got it, although I didn't realise how much I would like the X1 and thought I would never use it, and wished we had got another auto. However, using this 1 series reminded me how nice a manual car can actually be.

So I am hoping that when it comes back it will be as light as the 1er.

If not then I think I will sell the X1 and get Mercedes C250cdi sport estate auto on one of those stupidly cheap deals.
