Shouldnt of gotten a SES light. When you get home take everything apart again and put back together make sure everything is sealed up nicely and make sure the MAF sensor is plugged all the way in too.

I checked the MAF plug this morning at work and it seemed plugged in tight. I will check everything again, but I have taken off and put on my airbox so many times I can't believe anything would be loose. I just hope something isn't really wrong. I don't need that right before the Holidays.

I used the quick evaporating stuff made for MAF sensors. I did spray it pretty heavy. Not rough idling at all though. Throttle response seems great.

I am going to try and clear the SES light when I get home tonight and see if it comes back on.

Got home tonight and read the codes. Engine has a 2A99 code which states "crank shaft - exhaust camshaft, correlation" I have no clue what the hell that means. I cleared the SES light and started the car back and the light did not come back on. If it does it will probably be going into the shop.

I hope I didn't fubar something deleting the carbon filter.

I'm almost positive the code is tripped after 2 driving cycles.....which means it WILL come back.

First code is a shadow fault, second one trips the SES light.

Which means I will be taking it to the shop? I read this code may pop up with dirty VANOS solenoids.

I just find it REALLY odd that the code popped up after deleting the charcoal filter. It is the only code showing up, nothing else.

I reset it when I got home and nothing so far. No SES light yet.

It is odd. Wait about 200 miles. That usually when mine trips the SES light for 2A16 which is a fine leak in the EVAP system. I know what hose is leaking. I just don't feel like dropping my rear subframe and gas tank to replace it. lol

Good luck. I hope it doesn't come back.

Thanks, me neither. It would seem that if it does I will pull the VANOS solenoids, clean, and swap positions. If it follows the solenoid I know I need to replace it.

I forget which code came up but the vanos solenoids will throw specific codes when they are sticking or malfunctioning. I had mine replaced under CPO and I remember the code I pulled said the solenoid on the intake side was sticking. Looking through my bentley manual, I noticed there were also codes for a faulty solenoid.

Btw, I'm not sure if you're aware but cleaning the solenoids is just blowing shop air threw them.

UPDATE: Well i have driven to work now 3 times with no light. I also have checked for error codes after getting home each night and got nothing. I am continuing to monitor.

By the way the code I was getting was the 2A99 code. It was the only code showing up.

I did the charcoal filter delete + K&N mod during my lunch brake today at work. It took 30 Mins start to finish and was a fun way to get me through the work day. I work at a ski/bike shop so we have all sorts of air tools for sanding which made the clean up easy. I notice a little more punch in the throttle and a nice new sound from the engine with the windows down. Nothing crazy but for the $60 i spent and the fun of doing it it was 100% worth it to me!!

US N52 has two flat panel filters. One is a removable paper filter, one is a charcoal filter, bonded to the airbox.

Some (including myself) have cut out the charcoal filter, thinking it provides improved airflow. There is a DIY on the forum detailing the process.

If deleting the charcoal filter messed up the engine ratios BMW would be out of business. There are some many variables in the environment. If the engine was that sensitive, again BMW you be out of business.

I have a aFe oiled drop in, charcoal delete, and air silencer delete. Car runs great. A very slight increase in throttle response and sound.

The purpose of the carbon filter is to scrub the air that can leak back out after turning off the engine. Its an emissions thing. Has nothing to do with the performance of the car.
This!
