korean girls are known to get a little crazy so watch out for that. plus most korean girls are more traditional than non korean asian girls from my past experiences. She seems like the type of girl that if you marry you will always have bop and kimchee on the table after you get back from work. good luck

Not all Koreans but Koreans tend to be one of the most ethnocentric asian races out there. Especially those who hang around all Koreans. The Koreans I get along with tend to mix with all types of crowds.

Ppl are either being pc or not posting. Simple answer is SHE'S KOREAN! Korea the best!

Relax..its not necessarily they NEVER want to assimilate...sometimes it takes a little while to feel comfortable around more established Americans...it happens to all the new immigrants...Polish, German, Italians, Irish, Mexicans...nothing "new"

Were not talking FOBs here, we're talking about people who have been in the country for years. The people who act like they never left their native country and make no effort to assimilate.

Also, I just find it plain old rude as shit. Being "white", I've never based any friendship on race.

Asians often have a very different set of traditions/manners that they don't view most "Westerners" having. Most of the time I don't think the intent is to be rude. For example, in many Asian families, it is okay to live at home past the age of 18. Americans often look down upon that, thinking you need to get out and "become an adult." A typical Asian family will never ever send a parent to a convalescent home unless it's impossible to take care of their parents.

It's not choosing friendship based on race, it's the fact that people choose to hang out with those they can relate to and whom they have the most exposure to.

Being "white," perhaps you simply don't understand, therefore you find it "rude as shit." Americans typically are a lot more confrontational and forward than Asian culture as well. We can go on about this for days.

How is my elderly grandmother going to make white friends? How is she going to "assimilate?"

FWIW, I have friends of all races/nationalities/religions/etc..

For established Americans that want to stick to their own little nationality..it's just lame..they are probably boring and simple minded f's that i wouldnt want to hang out with anyways....f'em

And yeah we have our little differences for each race or whatever but that's no excuse...gimme a break..like some third gen Korean from L.A. has so much in common with some other Korean from Seoul..rather than another L.A. res of whatever nationality...gimme a break

No. I don't buy it. I'm talking about youth here. Children. Teens. Young adults. You become part of a culture by living where you live and doing what you do. We're talking about people who choose not to. They choose to surround them selves in nothing but their own culture and their own people.

I believe if you move to a place you should embrace the culture. Embrace where you live and the community.

Go to f back where you came from if you want nothing to do with the US.

Post pix of her first and we'll tell you if she's a racist or not...

But seriously, I don't think she's being racist. For example, when I have BBQ's I would invite friends over and sometimes they would get get stares from my grandfather (he's old school). My friends, whom I've known for 10+ years, would laugh about it and say "dude why is your grandpa giving us dirty looks?"

Some people are just old school and like to stay within their "culture" or "comfort zone". I wouldn't necessarily call it racism. My parents, for example, are pretty open but when it comes to marriage, they prefer that we stay within our race. However, they're not going to totally put their foot down if I were to marry a hispanic girl (I'm asian btw). It just depends on the person but racism isn't part of the equation IMO.

Hmmm It really does depend on the person. I can see where you're coming from though. When I first came over here I think all of my friends were white. It wasn't until about a year later that I made some asian friends (indians, chinese, etc.). I'm still friends with most of those people until these days. I would say I have about a 50/50 mix between white and non-white.

I also have asian friends that only hang out with asians (even though they know some of my white friends). It just depends on what they do. For example, if they go to coffee shops a lot it's better to go with other asians. I personally don't like that kind of things so I hang out with whomever and do whatever it is that interests me. I guess I've assimilated pretty well in the "culture" that has surrounded me.

What if you live in Korea town? Embracing is a two way street though. Perhaps they feel alienated and not welcomed by White people? Racism is a lot less prevalent today but I was not welcomed by a lot of White people in Elementary School and Jr. High. In fact, I was called racist names in tons of occasions in P.E. and not many of my white friends stood up for me. You have to walk in another man's shoes before you can judge.

Again, I moved out of the mostly Asian areas while in HS and I had plenty of white friends, especially because I was in sports. As I grew older, I had more and more Asian friends. Why? Because that's what we share a lot of common beliefs and culture.

Dare I say it, culture is more important to Asians than your typical white person. I AGREE that it is beneficial to be more well rounded but assimilate? That is a horrible choice of wording.

Some people choose to surround themselves by their own race, that's fine, it's a free country for a reason. Go tell that guy from Nebraska to move to Los Angeles where there's more of a melting pot then.
