I was thinking the same thing for my car but the problem is it's a bit bigger meaning your current caliper bracket might not fit on the 330 rotor.

In short yes it can but you'll probably need to get the 330 caliper bracket but even if you do I still don't know if they'd fit perfectly.

the real question is if you can put 5 series rotors on a 3....they have cast aluminum hats which is good for unsprung weight

The Z4 35iS rotors, part numbers 34116782593KT, are apparently plug and play 2-piece rotors for the 335. 348x30 2-piece with Al hat. OEM qualified and won't break the bank.

I did it on my previous B6 A4 Audi with B5 S4 brakes.

If you can confirm: 1) caliper is the same and 2) caliper carrier bracket uses the same hole pattern, you should be good to go. Some guys even have brackets machined to fit a caliper.

You may notice the brake feel or threshold to ABS has changed, but once you are used to the new modulation, you can work with it.

I don't know if the rotor size of a 325 and 328 are the same but 328's are 300x24 & 300x20 while the E90 330 is 338x26 & 336x22.

For me i'd like to do this upgrade just for the looks and bigger rotors since it runs cooler due to more surface area plus stock rotors look way to small when you have 19" rims.

If you change rotor size you will need to update calipers as well or run with carriers.

The 16 inchers stock wheels will not fit anymore of course.

Rotors, Calipers and Caliper Brackets.

The Pads and Dust Shields are the same though.

Yes it can be done. Front 300x24 -> 330x24 and Rear 300x20->336x22.
The only thing you need is the carriers for the larger brakes. The calipers are the same, bmw part numbers might disagree, but they are exactly the same.
So the only thing you need is new brakediscs and new carriers. (and the bigger dust shields on the fronts, rear are already oversized)
The upgrade to 330fronts and 336 rears is called 'increased load package'. But bmw doesn't want you to just simply upgrade the carriers. They want to sell you the complete package.

I did some research on this... this was my original plan as well.
As my current 300mm discs are on the limit and slightly warped. I wanted bigger brakediscs, since i'm already running 17" for my winter setup. So i don't need to fit 16".

But I opted for the 335i setup. (got a great deal). Just waiting for the parts to be shipped... the agony of waiting Not the best time during ascension, businesses and mail closed

And no abs,dsc difference, since all 6cil 3 series use the same brake master cylinder and servo units.

Thanks for clearing up the caliper thing! I was a little curious myself why they would change the caliper.

Just make sure you have 17" wheels. I don't believe the 16" wheels will clear the brakes.

Hi, new to the forum and BMW's.

I'm wanting to upgrade my 320d brakes up to 335i brakes mainly for looks as i have new 19's to go on, and the OEM 320d brake disc/rotor's look way too small.

From what i've found out so far, i think i need new disc's/rotor's, new calipers and new caliper carriers to do the swap.

Doe's anyone know if it's even possible, and if there's anymore part's needed to do the uprgrade?

Make sure you have the 180mm rear parking brake. Most 325s and 28s have the 160mm parking brake. If you have a wagon or convertible then you should be fine. Not sure about the xi models though.

My rear rotor's are actually bigger than the front's which is another reason why i NEED to change them for the 19's. Looks really silly with bigger rears

you need caliper carriers from 330i for the front to use 330mm disks from 330i. rear i dont know

Looks like you have a touring so you have the 180mm rear brake. The BMW performance kit might work too if you're willing to spend a little bit extra.
