BRAKE light still on after pad/sensor replacement
Hey All,
I changed my front brake pads and pad sensor last weekend. I reset the lights through the CBS reset button method (car accessories on, odo reset, etc) but the BRAKE light and car on lift signs still come on. When I reset through CBS, it showed as -9,000 miles on the indicator. I think it's one of the following things:
Let me know if I'm missing something. Thanks!

By the way, extremely curious here - How much of the brake pad was left after being 9000 miles overdue? |

Did you ever find a solution to your problem with the reset? I'm have the same issue. I had all the brakes replaced by Firestone and i had to reset the indicators myself. The front one reset and the rear wont. I tried adjusting and cleaning the rear sensor to no avail.

Why not use the BT tool to update the service interval on your brake pads?
Also, the brake light could come on because your brake fluid needs to be changed every 2 years. There is a timer for that as well..

I had my brakes, pad, rotors, sensors, etc. replaced and the shop I used reset the intervals with the Idrive yet the light was still on. They couldn't figure out how to get the light off so I drove home, plugged in my BT tool and reset the interval with the BT tool. The light went off.
I think you guys need to reset it with the BT scan tool.

Correct! That is the proper procedure.

No you can reset it through the turn signal stalk. I did that on a friends E46 a couple weeks ago after changing his pads/rotors.
You guys probably aren't doing it right and/or the sensor is bad. Are you guys using OEM pad wear sensors? Some aftermarket sensors are known to not work correctly. |

Where can you reset the brake pad interval in the BT tool. I click on conditioned based service and it does not pull up a reset option for brake pads/rotors - just brake fluid?

The stealership I went to tried to reset my car manually, then tried with their computer (Same as BT Tool), then realized that they need to do the reprogramming. I also replaced my oil level sensor, and that needed to be reprogrammed along with the brake sensors. |

There is actually a service bulletin put out by BMW for the E90 in 2008 (SIB 34 02 08) which corrects "Erroneous Brake Pad Replacement Messages" It is caused by an error in the DSC module and the CBS miscalculates.

Edit - I picked up my car from the indy shop and I was able to reset the light on the stalk. Not sure if this will help anyone. Last edited by rjive; 02-07-2013 at 08:11 PM.. |

You need to replace the sensors, if they ever get grounded they are done. I had to replace my sensors before I was able to reset the light even though mine weren't bad. Plus the sensors only run about $12 each and takes minutes to install
