Didn't get my letter yet either & my VIN is on the recall.

Stated letters would be sent out beginning March 31,2016 & a 2nd notice when the parts are available, all though I see some have already received the 1st letter

No big hurry on the letter as they also state parts are not immediately available...

Didn't get letters as I am not the original owner. I did get the recall notice by checking my vin tho. Do I have to remove my JB4 before visiting dealer?

Cars can be purchased from high humidity areas and taken to low humidity areas, and vis-versa. This entire problem theoretically affects every car with this inflator. You're right, there is a small chance that you, as an individual, will be involved in an accident with a defective airbag, but there are a lot of cars on the road, and that's a lot of potential lawsuits that can cost the company more down the line.

Remember when that auto transport tanker ballast failed and listed to one side for over a month? Mazda took each and every car being shipped and silently destroyed them. Close to 5,000 cars, of which about 41 actually had damage, were scrapped - tires popped, rims crushed, airbags deployed, fluids drained. It cost them over $100,000,000, and was cheaper and less risky to their brand than allowing any of those cars to be sold.

The fact that Takata has been highly selective of who gets a recall has done more damage to their brand than if they simply said, "Yep. We made a defective product, and we are going to own up to it and replace all of the airbags with this inflator." Right now, they're slowly going to need to do that anyway, and they're poorly handling the situation. The more times a new recall list comes out, the lower trust the public has for Takata. Their stock continues to plummet to 2008-recession levels in a thriving economic market.

I'm not the original owner of mine, but I got a letter directly from BMW. Only thing I can think of is the registration when buying clued them in, or using the radio to call BMW Assist and updating my info. I'm guess it's probably the latter that had their info updated to show me as the current owner of this particular car.

I need to do research on the VANOS thing now.

BMW uses your state car registration to send recall notices.

Kinda of a different thing... Mazda had insurance to cover the loss.

Would it be possible to disconnect the air bag until it can be replaced. I always use my belts anyway. I would feel safer with just the belts and no shrapnel. Lol

Got my letter Friday, E91 with Msport. I have seen letters for cars with the passenger side airbag needing replacement & it states not to have a passenger until replaced yet we are supposed drive these cars with defective drivers side airbags until parts are available . I bet this whole situation is a lawyers dream.

Parts not available for another 6 months according to my service adviser. Really hoping I won't have to use my airbags, lol.

I received a postcard a few weeks ago from a local BMW dealer I've never used, but no letter from either BMW or my dealer.

Since parts aren't available, and I'm not in a high humidity area, I'll wait to hear from BMWUSA.

Disconnecting the airbag will throw an error code that you will need to pay the dealer to reset - unless you have & know how to use INPA...

I got my letter Friday and am not expecting parts to be in anytime soon. Last year I got the passenger seat airbag sensor recall about this time of year and I think I finally was able to get it done in October.

370000 affected BMW 3-series, much less all the other brands/models of cars 31 different brand names...lotta rental cars needed to service that need. Honda has 5.5 Million alone. There is an estimated 140 Million airbag inflators from Takata in the U.S. alone. What do you think is the source for that many loaners?!

Lol, that'd be hilarious. Can you imagine getting a loaner for 6-10 months?!

Also, I'm incredibly surprised this somehow hasn't turned into a lemon law issue. If it takes manufacturers more than 6 months to harbor a part, it sure as hell sounds like it counts.
