£1000 for alternator and battery!

Just had the Pork back at the dealer today to fit a new alternator - the new battery was fitted a few weeks back and this was the first opportunity I had to get the car back to the dealer to change the alt. Fortunately Pork warranty is picking up the tab, the alternator was £550 (!) and the battery £180 plus fitting for both (2 hours labour I think). Total price about £1000.

Not sure how long I will own this car, but one thing is for definate, I will never be without an OPC warranty so long as the C4S is on my drive. It has already paid for the first year cost of the warranty.

How can an alternator be £550? That's ridiculous.

And in my experience, you'll need that warranty on the Porsche!

Sorry...I know I shouldn't be so negative towards them but their policies and just the whole way that brand operates is the most arrogant I've ever come across. Jon...in comparison AMG are very reasonable!

You're talking about an alternator, so I'll take this opportunity to ask anyone with tech knowledge about this - I have a 318 SE Petrol (I know - boring) That aside I took it to a BMW approved garage in the North West and I was told that I needed a fly wheel and clutch (£1200) I found this hard to believe as they took 1 1/2 hours to diagnose. I then took it for a second opinion to BMW dealer (friend works there so I would hope they wouldn't rip me off) The said - its definately not flywheel or clutch it is the alternator. There is a servere rattle when I start up and low revs setting off.

What do you think?
