I've had a 2 tonnes Sealey one for what must be 20 years, not used a lot but still in perfect working order. Its one of the bigger garage type ones not the small hobby ones, they are two light and can topple over easily. Think mine was around £70.

I've been wondering the same myself as only one of my jacks will go under the car & that is on it's last legs. I've trawled the net for reviews of Aluminium Jacks & without a doubt the Arcan 1.8 Ton low entry ( 89-498mm Model CEALJ2T Weight 21.5Kg Colour red/silver) comes out favourite, although price works out at about £139. I did consider the cheaper Arcan XL30 but it's steel & weighs in at about 45 kgs, and I don't fancy lugging that around

With hindsight I'v learned the best advice is get the biggest one you can afford. Weight isn't an issue as you don't carry them, they have wheels!!!!

I bought a 1.5 tonne originally (the same one you linked to JonD, also badged Draper and Clarke) but it felt like it was going to snap or bend at times, really struggled to lift half a 1700kg car (850kg) so god knows how it would deal with 1500kg!

I've now got a 2.5 tonne large size one (permanent loan from the Father in law ) absolute dream, sure its heavier, but much easier to lift the car and rock solid stable.

The smaller ones have a very small footprint which doesn't feel very stable.

Wheels don't work well on the expanse of gravel between the drive, where I have to jack the car up, and the garage where there's not enough room for me, jack & car, so I have to carry the trolley Jack which makes a big steel one a pita

I secon the arcan one from costco. They have changed it slightly from the silver aluminium one I have but still looks the same and works great.Price is very good as well. Shame not more local as go to costco often so could have picked it up for you

I've just picked one of these up from the Liverpool Costco, they're not listed on the Costco website but they definitely have them in store at £108, as stated by quattrogmbh.

Most of the reviews I've read on aluminium trolley jacks have been on the the Clarke CTJ1250A as sold by Machine Mart, which is reportedly small, light & fairly flimsy, and they had all but put me off buying one, but this Arcan jack is just the opposite. For a start it is beautifully made, but it is also a lot bigger & heavier than I expected. Provided you can buy the Arcan at Costco it works out at the same price as the Clarke, but comparing specs they're like chalk & cheese ie:

Clarke CTJ1250A

Lift Capacity:........1.25 Tonnes
Dimensions (LW):...533x280
Weight:...............10.3kg
Low/High height:...79mm / 376mm


Arcan CEALJ2T

Lift Capacity:........1.8 Tonnes

I would definitely say this Arcan is one heluva trolley jack & one which I'd highly recommend

I bought a sealey 3 ton heavy duty jack with 2 x axle stands for £110 excellent jack, as for height I always drive onto wooden 8x4 blocks first anyway.

I've already got 3 regular height trolley jacks, a Sealey, a Halfords & an ancient no name so I wanted one that fitted under without messing & I'm very pleased with the Arcan, although I think it should be hung on the wall rather than hidden away in the garage

I got one from the Costco in Westhill a few weeks ago, they seem to come in and out of stock but I'm sure they'll have some.

Thanks for the info. I'm not far from Westhill so I'll call in during the week; I'll also ask about winter tyres while I'm there - I heard they were doing 20% off a set of Michelins.

I ended up going in yesterday, they have plenty of stock

I got a cracking deal on tyres from pneus online, it's worth checking what they have available in your sizes. Then the wheel specialist in Dyce swapped them over for £40.
